Benoot said they didn't go too crazy because they wanted to keep Van Aert in the group... I'm sorry but Visma need to get realistic about that guy, I'm almost starting to feel sympathy for Trine Vingegaard. Forget about Wout and just race.
What are you talking about? If Visma thought they had a good chance of winning the stage with Vingegaard, they would have drilled it from the beginning on that climb. But they didn't, because this type of climb and finish suits Pogacar much more. As was also evident from how it unfolded and ended.

This is sort of true..
but it breaks the newest golden rule as you find yourself in the selection
, ** don't work with Pogacar** just wasted juice you will always need later.

The race has dozens of bright spots after the selection for the winners and losers. Pogacar tried to pound Vingegaard, Jonas momentarily sat up, but instead decided to fight to reattach and he did, the closest chasers also caught the champion. Pog looked very, very human for a change.. Fantastic ride by Onley, Jorgenson, Allies especially, Skjelmose another quality effort.. Same with Kevin Vauqeulin..Remco not dropped is new standard, he wasn't so it was a good day. MVP is nobody for 3 week GC and is making the most of available opportunities.. Alpecin is organized awesome for these first few days..
And for all the organization alarm bells from yesterday.. Today had all kinds of turns, pinch points, multiple changes in surface, abundance of fans not paying attention and partying.. Road furniture, ect..but all crashing was mostly self inflicted from not paying attention after four days of crashing.. Just out in the open, nothing technical, just falling off your bike. Great stage, best were all there, great finish..Ineos gave up another @40 second with Rodriguez not able.. And Ben O'Connor turned in any chance losing another @1:50.. Tudor tumbled down a little..

Hirschi finished two times in top10 of the year ranking after leaving.
Søren Kragh Andersen made his best point total ever the year after leaving.
Kämna didn't have over 220 points at DSM/Sunweb. Have scored around double that (+) thrice since leaving.
Barguil had several good years at Arkea after leaving.
Am I totally missing your point? None of these riders got worse after leaving DSM/Sunweb/PicnicNL.

Congrats to Pogi for the 100th victory of his career. Any win over MVDP in this form is a good win. And leaving yellow with Alpecin will save UAE for now. Tomorrow we see how much the Dauphine TT was just a training aberration.

Normal repetitive attacking Pogacar. He briefly snapped the elastic on Rampe Saint-Hilaire but Vingegaard was amazing and doesn't want to concede a single second - new found explosivity? Not sure what this means for week 3 but so far very promising for Jonas.

Remco was close and tenacious enough to suggest his diesel will be warmed up for tomorrow's TT. He will be favored to win but yellow looks a little too far.

A bit of a downer to see Roglic unable to hold on. The Rogla of old would have competed for the win?

Excpected more from Remco
I think this is maybe a little harsh? That was full gas, balls out racing on terrain which doesn't suit him, EVERYONE was on the rivet, he virtually singlehandedly towed the chasers back to Pog/Jonas (to be fair, maybe a little dumb, maybe should have tried to bluff VdP into closing that since Mathieu was in yellow, but I'd rather see it as him having faith he can still take yellow tomorrow if the gap doesn't get bigger...),.

Yes lost a little time at the end but even Mathieu was tying up at the line. If he'd have lost 30 seconds then yes, I'd agree, but he was right there in the mix in a positively thermonuclear finale and after looking so shaky the first few days it's a nice 'W' to see him active at the pointy end imho. Had to close a couple gaps that a better bike handler might not have let open but overall he looked vastly sharper today. He needs to win that TT tomorrow though, and at least reasonably solidly, but it was overall a very good ride I thought. Just my .02 of course.

Great stage as I expected despite the lack of mountains the GC contenders are already fighting for GC in the first week.

Pogacar getting his 100th win and he is now 8 seconds ahead of Vingegaard on GC but I have to say that I got really impressed with the Dane managing to held his own on this punchy effort. Almeida doing some great work, he might really finishing on the podium. Oscar Onley and Gregoire very strong once again.
