They have done this multiple times before, thet just never speed up if no one else comes (which is possible) and then they have 4 minutes at like 40 to go.
No if you want this to go you let it blow out completely once anyone starts attacking.

The calculus for UAE is also simply different than it was at the start of the day. They only need to control for two more hours to be able to go for the stage and with Van der Poel in the break a stage win would be as good as guaranteed. IMO they should go for it.
Yes. Stupid not to. A stage is a stage, people act like stuff like that doesnt matter for a rider like Pog, but its the damn Tour de France. You win while you can, and then you laugh at all the other riders claiming you are greedy. its the name of the game

Pogi should be making friends in the peloton. I understand the "No gifts" thing but it might come handy some day in the future.

Gap decreasing now. How is anyone unsure whether UAE are going for the stage?

They have done the literal opposite of letting the break go.

No one's going to help Pogacar because he's giving him a stage.

He gave Lenny a stage in the Dauphiné. Do you think that's what will help him in the future?

It's not the 90s.

Wout trying to start a break, and then falling off the edge of the earth is just strange to me. If he isn't strong enough to be there now, why would Visma have thought he was strong enough to go in a day long break, and win?

I don't think anyone is pushing that hard right now. The gruppetto has only lost 2 minutes in the last hour.

Why would they give a stage to Simon Yates who just won the Giro againts UAE?

The pace of the break is slow, they are saving energy to attack each other.

Fair point.

I think, like someone said, Pogi cares about the yellow jersey a lot. Of course the stage is important as well, but he wants to start knocking down all the records.

Likely stopped riding when he realized he wasn't going to make it. He's in energy conservation mode now.

I think UAE's pace on the upcoming climb (in ~ 10 km) will say more about whether they want to stay within striking range

If Pogi does n't go for the win, then UAE have used up a lot of energy for nowt. Maybe it's a rehearsal for tomorrow up the Mûr!
