Can everybody stop moaning and arguing about LA now? It's over.
Sorry, for the last couple of years we've had one of the most exciting riders for years taking to the helm cycling, and some of the most exciting (and cleaner) young talent coming through too.
If Lance had come back and shown some grace and admiration for the totality of what he was part of, rather than (again) treat it as if it is all about him, I wouldn't be revelling in this so much.
ALL I have had to endure for the last 2 years (after assuming he had finally gone and let the sport regain some balance) is Lance this, Lance that, Planet Me, taking the light away from all the really nice bits that cycling has to offer. Mr Condescending rather than Ascending or Descending with grace..
So for years he's had it all on his terms. Well, I'm marking the "it's over" as I want to, and on my terms. Sorry if that offends you, but this seems to be the only appropriate time to
really do it in style.
I'm loving the stage up front. Man. "normally" I would be all over it, as this Tour is now indeed becoming the Tour I hoped it would be. Great to watch one we have shed the Lance show.
But there is only one thing I will remember this stage for. The end of an era. Not sure why I or anyone should shut up about it. It's a momentous occasion for one thing. And it isn't the stage win.
