The weather forecast is not looking great:
http://meteonews.fr/en/Course_of_the_Day/G3016761/Col_du_Galibier/d0/today

-3/4 with light snow all day. With a 20 km/h southerly (headwind) will add to wind-chill.

It;'s goingto be a tough old day up there and I can see them bringing the finish back even further to the top of the Telegraphe or to Valloire.

As well as rider/caravan safety already mentioned in their statement, the TV coverage is also critical to them (ie their revenue). We all tuned in to watch a great day of cycling yesterday and Eurosport viewers were presented with re-runs of the "Watts" funnies show.

Mother nature beats technology once again. Disappointing for the fans and the riders will just feel like spending a week in a warm bed !

Is the Pantani monument at the top or bottom of the 11% section on the profile? I'm guessing near the bottom as that was where he attacked, but it's hard to tell from the profile.

*groan*

Meanwhile, pass the sick bucket...

Mark Cavendish ‏@MarkCavendish 22m
Never want to feel again how I did yesterday! Totally empty. Lucky to have an amazing @opqscyclingteam & some great friends @taylorphinney.

Taylor Phinney ‏@taylorphinney 1m
.@MarkCavendish the fact you finished yday's brutality after such an impressive 2 weeks is a testament to what a true champion you are Mark.

You have to give it to Cav, love him or hate him in the Grand Tours he respects the sprint jersey and sticks at it when he's in the hunt. If today's course doesn't get canned he can look forward to more of the same lol!

It's confirmed that they'll do (almost) the entire original stage:

What about the coverage?

And what is almost? That's pretty important. Not the last 2 km or 10 last km?

Let's hope that almost doesn't mean much for the italians

Alot of folk are saying its a good Giro and the weather has helped make it unpredictable and exciting but if the inclement conditions continue the race could descend into farce,i hope this is the last stage affected and everything runs smooth(ish, its the Giro after all!) from now on.
