Again I never said he was going full gas, but I don't think his full gas would have achieved all that much anyway, maybe he thought better to just go back in the peloton and regroup then waste hat energy that far out.

Gio's a better climber than a lot of people give him credit for. I certainly wouldn't put my money on him, but if the bunch keep riding as they are I wouldn't be TOO surprised if he hangs on... just. This is, imo, too big a climb for him though, most of his best climbing results have been something maxing out on this size of climb - and that's this climb from Valloire, not including the Télégraphe.
