He says he is still gutted he lost the Giro in the way he did. But he also said he learned a lot about himself and now knows he is GT winning material.

I think he was way too confident. Just hearing his interview. No weakness. He got ahead off himself and let his guard down and made mistake. He should have kicking himself for that. That a bitter pill for him to swallow. Be humble, be humble. His pink was his to loose. He was already on the limit when Nibali attacked. Maybe, he could have been dropped but at least it might come down to 30 seconds on sunday, instead of tumbling down to 4th with 5 minutes. And having a DS who's not experience winning GT either, kinda show,.. how they did tactically as a team.

I think he has to cut himself some slack. It was a split second in a three week race. His disappointment is massive but when the racing is full on that can happen to anyone. And it happened when he had no team mates around which has also happened in the past to other good GC riders. I don't think you can prepare for those things but he was forced to follow as his two main rivals were the ones forcing the pace. He obviously thought that it was a critical point of the stage and did not want to lose contact. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

he actually didn't think it was critical or something. He was thinking about eating and drinking, thus not focussed on the descend.

I agree. Two days in a row he said he had 'no weaknesses'. The first time I was flabbergasted, heck this is a bike race and anything can happen. The second day he said it I pegged it as hubris. Well he paid the price for his hubris. But he's learned his lesson and that is what counts...'it's not over until it's over' is what he said after the race. So he shouldn't kick himself, instead move forward with his new found attitude!

I disagree. Everyone wanted to hear that his weakness is the team. What should he do? Telling everybody yes my team mates suck. Imagine how appreciated that would have been. Also about the descending. Why telling everybody to attack him on descents. I think staying confident was the right thing to do here.

No. You always take it day by day, staying well positioned in the bunch at all times and minimising the risk of being held up by crashes or behind a split in the peloton

Confidence is one thing. He was asked about how he felt. He said pretty good, I'm confidence. But please stop there. He should watch the interview from Contador or Froome. They never appear to be over confident. Confident is great. Over is not. That's what I mean. And worst thing, he fell because of his mistake. He lost his pink not due to other rider, but due to himself. So he beats himself. Yes, best thing is, dust yourself, and learn the lesson. Also being a bit humble won't hurt too. Good luck Kruisjwick.

How is his crash related to being over confident?
He made a technical mistake. No cyclist has his guard down while descending in the snow at 70 km/h.

And btw I heard all of his interviews with RAI and he never sounded arrogant. What is the correct answer to the question: what is your weak point?

Looking back, that half second in the MTT really pisses me off when I think of it now

Nothing wrong with a bit of modesty but I really didn't think Kruisjwick was that bad, he was confident but why wouldn't he be? he was doing everything right and it all seemed to be going his way. You do wonder though with his form so great did he play it safe on some stages where he could have taken more time before the crash.

That's probably true. When you're three minutes ahead you start thinking defensively.

If he had won people would be praising his confidence. It's all hineininterpretierung.

According to a dutch newspaper, Kruijswijk extended with Lotto Jumbo. They will get more support in the mountains for him over the next two years and ofc bumped his salary. Also says he will go for the giro again next year :D

I'm willing to bet this will turn out to be an empty promise and he'll get no significant mountain support.

Now that they've got a genuine GC contender, they will definitely get him some support.

Gesink can work for him.

Like I said, LottoNL stayed loyal to him when he had his arterial disease. So now Kruijswijk pays that back by staying at LottoNL when he has become a tru Giro contender. I guess it never was in question for him. Steven is a guy of big character!

Terrible decision. I get it he wants to pay them back for staying loyal to Kruijswijk when he had all these seasons wasted by his artery block, but still.

No Giro win coming soon then :(

It all depends on whether or not they actually bring in proper support for him. Surely even the most notoriously silly team management in the World Tour can't be foolish enough not to.

He would have walked this year's giro without the crash. He doesn't need a team. He is the new contador

He's got one super-domestique already. Well, if Dear Robert dares to work in service of another rider!
