Was it more than just some golden bands on the sleeves? I also vaguely remember Sanchez sporting an Olympic Jersey in some races, but I haven't found any photographic evidence yet.

Boardman said in a TT, a rehearsed bike change is 15-20s. I would lean towards 20s because the officials are much more strict on the distance the team car is allowed to be to the riders so there's an additional wait for the car to make up that distance to the rider to then stop than we're used to seeing in World Tour races.
I'm that case you also pick the optimal part of the course for the swap, not wherever you happen to flat.

Of course if it were closer, Remco would have had a chance to push harder on the pedals or through the corners. As it was, he knew in advance he would win so probably left some seconds on the table.

I dont think Tarling was going to win on pure pace v Remco in the form he is in, but a silver was possible, and you never know what that time pressure might have done, if Remco pushes harder through the corners, hes at higher risk of slipping and falling down. Ultimately he rode the percentages to win, so I dont think we can compare the times that much with how much time Tarling lost

No, we know, Remco won the gold, He's the Olympic Champion.

He won with time to enjoy it. The rest of it might be interesting to talk about, but it's a bunch of woulda coulda shoulda. It's a shame he flatted, but suggesting there was any question about the winner seems pretty off to me.
I totally agree with you, in my mind my comment was a 'just shut up and get on with it' to the previous posters with masters in mathematics who were pontificating.

Personally, I can't get excited about the Olympics or World champs. They just seem a lottery one off race (OK, the ITT's, well, they're just another ITT. This race could have been stuck in any stage of a GT/one week race, but you get a medal at the end of it). When there are more prestigious, exciting races on the calendar with better history, I would prefer to be know as a GT/Monument winner than an Olympic/WT winner. I'm taking nothing away from anyone who wins gold, silver or bronze in any of the races, but I just can't get excited about it. Roll on when we get back to the cycling calendar.

World champs an unprestigious lottery not to get excited about?

Okay.

However, there is an almost complete overlap between gp/monument and Olympic/WC RR winner since the pros returned to the Olympics. WC has always been prestigious in itself for the RR it’s on the same level as the monuments. The interesting with OG/WC is that you win without a massive team and all that is involved in that concept. Only the greatest riders manage winning both. Monuments/GT and WC/OG

If they plan on incorporating all of Remco's titles in the jersey's collar, it's not looking good for the dude.

Viviani went for this solution (for road races) while at Cofidis:

So Evenepoel could do something similar for the time trials:
Belgian bands on one arm, European bands on the other, World bands on the collar.
On the road he of course won't have to worry about incorporating Europeans bands... yet.

Wonder if anyone will ever be able to complete:

All 5 Monument
WC
OG

would be the 7 most prestigious 1-day races. I guess Pogi in theory "could" albeit Roubaix is the big question.

I mean, Rik van Looy actually does have all 5 Monuments, a WC and an Olympic Gold on the road...

but the 1952 Road Race Gold he won was the team event and van Looy actually did not finish it... André Noyelle won the individual gold.

So:

Merckx, van Looy, Kuiper

won 6/7... albeit Kuiper's Olympic Gold was in the pre-1996 era so has an asterisks.

This is literally the entire point of a world championship/Olympic competition.
