He's locked in. He looks hungry. For the characteristic that defines Pogacars type that means only one thing.

The Cipressa trap - Caleb Ewan thinks its best for UAE to ride Cipressa easy and save everything for the Poggio? I tend to disagree but this all confirms why this race is so difficult for a rider like Pogacar to win when he is so heavily watched.

if UAE and Pogačar race hard, especially on the Cipressa, it could leave them tired and exposed on the Poggio, when the decisive attacks so often come

Today I watched all Pog's attacks on Poggio in the last 3 editions. Some of them were very strong and yet he couldn't get a decisive gap. It's especially difficult vs MVP (who's the biggest problem as he's also stronger in the section after Poggio top) but there are also a few other guys who are able to minimize the gap and catch Pog downhill. I really don't know if Poggio alone is enough to separate Pog from the rest. They may try thermonuclear pace and attack on Cipressa indeed.

They have tried Poggio. It's almost impossible to go faster up there too besides 1-3sec, and the drag is too beneficial.

For that reason, to me, he will go at Cipressa, even though it's unlikely and, as far as I know, has never been done. Every sign points towards it—''we will try something new'' He will send it.

are we underestimating pog's chances in a sprint from a reduced group? last year he was not too far from philipsen who's supposed to be a pure sprinter and he clearly beat pedersen. Plus this year he rides the new bike, personally I don't like it and I believe msr will be the only big race in which he's gonna use it. But if he's using it for msr it means that they believe it gill give him something more in a sprint (because on cipressa and probably also poggio the bike will probably be a negative, in fact I expect all his teammates, who won't have to sprint, to use v4rs).

Depends what kind of group we are talking about. MVP and Matthews will be clearly favoured against Pog.

Maybe, I think the strongest on the Poggio tend to overperform in the Via Roma sprint, but it's still a weird one. There's no real leadout and you need to get the right draft at the right time.

Pogacar basically started on Philipsens wheel and he didn't gain any ground from that while Pedersen had to come all the way around after misplacing himself completely

Has that played out before? I have not seen all of races, but for Pogacar to sprint against Philipsen, Pedersen and not get humiliated sounds impressive..
I personally find Pogacar sprint style to look like Alberto Contador.

Pogacar beat Pedersen in two important sprints they contested: MSR'24 and WC'23. Both times the 3rd place was at stake.
WC was just another one of them stupid ones where Pedersen pulls the full final km, then launches the sprint from very far out and Pog just beats him at the line.

If you rewatch Sanremo 24, Pogacar really isn't close at all to winning. But he is fast enough to hold the wheel to come out in the final 50m if you go from too far, like Pedersen loves to do, or how Van Aert almost bottled his patented silver medal in Tokyo

Not saying Pogacar is faster in terms of pure speed but pointing out real races results, which depend also on decisions, tactics etc. Pogacar is not in lost position against Pedersen in a real race (as those examples show) but I definitely regard MVP, Matthews and Philipsen (if ready, which is doubtful) to be way superior.

It was embarrassing to watch. He was led out by Stuyven and could choose where to go, and the correct decision with the wind from his right side was to sprint along the barriers to the left. Yet he took the right side of the road.

I think he can beat one or two of best sprinters (Philiphsen, Mathews, Pedersen or MvDP), but not all of them. I want him to try on Cipressa but if he doesn't go there it would be funniest thing -him not attacking at all, even on Poggio. It would be pure comedy and chaos everybody waiting his attack but he does nothing.
