Where he was unlucky was the chain coming off when he had his mishap. Without that happening he would have got back to MVDP.
Yeah I think he would've been only around 5-10 seconds back without him getting the chain back and eventually changing his back at that moment.

He should skip both Amstel and Fleche and only do LBL. He was cooked today and doesn't need to burn out before the Tour and Vuelta.
Fleche in good weather is a pretty easy stroll for the most part anyway.

I'm very impressed, but not the least bit shocked that TP was able to do this well!
Congrats TP!

I wonder if this made him hungry for another go at PR, or if he is good now that he tried it?
This will definitely make him hungrier to go for the win at PR. He was 2nd because of his mistake in that corner. There will be a "what if" of "What if I didn't crash?". He'll definitely be back next year.

I have to disagree here a LOT. He was 2nd because of his fearless attacking style, his engine and willpower. Most of the people that were dropped, he dropped them, including MVDP's teammate. As for why he didn't win - because there was one man better than him on the day.
Some minor adjustments and I am not sure he isn't putting MVP in the hurt locker too. MVP owes his win as much to Philipsen reinserting himself into the race, clawing back on equal terms to Ganna who totally collapsed. With Philipsen around, MVP had to do little work and no attacking. He could sit back and watch Pogi digging multiple times.

the crash didn't help but he's going to struggle to beat MVDP in classics without any climbs of substance. Maybe try this race again in a couple of years - same goes for milan san remo

He’s got to do a full monuments campaign every year going forward. You don’t know the opportunity unless you’re in it

In his post race he said: "maybe, I don't know." when asked about coming back. That doesn't sound like a guy who is hungry to come back. Granted he is hammered from a 5.5 hour race so...

Probably just smart to not commit. It is a year until the next race afterall and he also have to see how he recovers now before Ardennes this year.

They will analyze everything.
