Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

Everyone is taking the same statements and writing a thousand articles.

I insist, he's saying that now; in a few weeks, he'll be thinking about winning his fifth Tour.

Domestique and others are the ones who spoke out of boredom. The TV audience doesn't support this.

Now they're excited about the idea that Pogacar won't return to the Tour. He will; I have no doubt he'll be in the 2026 Tour.

Let's not make such a big drama about it

Hopefully a few weeks off will reload Pog's battery for WC and Lombardia.

I think the attitude of his opponents also plays a role in his feelings about the last stages. In the classics (and also yesterday) opponents like MVDP, Pedersen and WvA are always willing to ride and attack, making it a lot of fun for Pog to ride. Vingo's attitude on La Plagne (and also Loze) was really frustrating, it seemed like it was more important that Pog wouldn't win then trying to go all-in and take some risks for an own victory.
So hopefully, we will see Tadej also the coming years in MSR, Flanders and P-R.

Soler said that Pogacar told them at the start of the stage that it was going to be a quiet day, that he was getting tired and wasn't going to try anything. But in Paris, he got excited and decided to compete in the stage.

That's Pogacar. He says one thing, but he loves cycling above all else. That's why I say, stay calm. He's exhausted now, but in a few months, he'll set himself the challenge of winning his fifth Tour de France.

If he wins his fifth Tour de France next year, I can already see him doing the Giro-Vuelta. Next year, he'll do the Tour de France. People have lost perspective with Del Toro after four subpar races. It was clear in the Giro that he's not going to win the Tour yet, and Pogacar has to win his fifth.

I agree with this. He’ll be back on the bike this week - Urska is already back training for Romandie.

He also gave an interview saying his next big goal was winning PR so I doubt he’s done, he just needs a week or two at home.

From this cannibalistic comment on top of peyregudes to speaking about boredom
& retirement a week later. What do u think happened to pog since his peyregudes comment? Has he experienced bullying on socials? Has anybody threatened him? Did he regret right after he said it? Its concerning what kind of mental state he is in since peyregudes. I've never seen him getting bored, talking of retirement, riding defensive & he has done all this in a single week. I would like to ask thread members what do u think happened to him since his cannibalistic talk on top of peyregudes?

What Soler said about yesterday's stage describes Pogacar. Before the stage, he told them he was exhausted and only thought about the podium. That it would be a quiet day. Three hours later, he was attacking in the rain 😅.

That's why I say we wait a few weeks. He'll miss competing. And the Tour might make him lazy, but in a few weeks, he'll realize he's has to win the fitth next year.

I think Pogacar is exhausted by the press and Tour fans (those on the internet). It's a very toxic environment.

I agree with everything you been saying related to this last 24h..

The fans during the tour are always super toxic along with a lot of people who just don’t watch cycling year round getting involved.

It will return to normal in a week or so.

I would generally be sceptical of reading too much into what an athlete says about retiring early, especially when they're exhausted or have just had a huge disappointment in their career.

True, hence I brought up the Dauphiné comment. He was in a good mood and probably not very exhausted when he said that.
But in general I agree, people often underestimate what exhaustion will do to your thoughts and outlook while it's there.

Pog is not removed from PCS yet.
I am not counting out Ayuso and Pogacar riding it together.
If they grabbed Ayuso by the ears and told him to work for Pogacar to clear up their relationship. It would be better for Juan's future if he does that.
We'll see.
UAE would be stronger in the Vuelta than in the Tour lol
Pogacar
Almeida
Ayuso
Majka
Bjerg
Soler
Arrieta
Another guy for the flat

About the retirement talks from Pogacar. It's all media fuss. The media exaggerates every word Pog says.
I remember Pogacar at his most depressed state in 2023. He was doubting himself, fans didn't believe he can ever beat Vingegaard again. He made a change of coach and the rest is history.
Pogacar still has to break MVDP in MSR and Roubaix. This will keep driving him.
He won't stop until he has his number.
The cycling commentators keep referring to MVDP as 'the best classics rider' in the world.
I'm sure Pog will not stop before making sure there is no doubt who is the real BEST.

This annoys me so much. Pogacar is by far the best classics rider.

The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long..

Unpopular opinion, but I actually would love to see Pogačar retire while he is indisputably on top. Of course, I hope he races for at least has 1-2 more seasons to obtain a 5th Tour and round out his palmares with PR and MSR.

His greatness will be missed, but I think it would be more befitting the GOAT to leave on his terms when HE feels he’s achieved what he wants, rather than fade into obscurity à la Froome.

To be the greatest ever requires absolute mental determination and clarity of intention. The body limits are defined mentally. Eddy was an absolute psycho and drove him to unthinkable domination.

Merckx: "There was barely any tension in France, if there had been more competition, it would have been harder for him to achieve so many victories. Mathieu van der Poel is the only one that can offer Tadej Pogacar a challenge" Scared that streets know, lol.

Does mental burnout happen in a space of a day when u said u're going to be enemies with 99% of the peleton due to ur merciless approach & the next week u do nothing?
