Which team do you mean? Slovenia? It's the only thing that stands in his way of winning the WC really. The team isn't strong enough, so he needs to hope other countries keep it together so he can win easily.

Its not that weak either. I guess other teams will also want a medal if a dangerous breakaway is ahead without them. It could get tricky for Pog if all top teams send their riders into a strong breakaway.

Top form Teddy Merckx. He has been very quiet on social media but he has been doing 4 and half hours of 340 w (NP). His team is incredible, I would be shocked if he doesn't win both races.
In Quebec, he has always struggled to get into shape because it´s the first race after the break following the Tour.
The level of participation is also very high.

The important thing is that it helps him get into a shape and perform well at the World Championships. Winning Quebec isn't important either.

it's more that the climbs aren't long enough - just a few hundred metres - so the bunch sprinters can just blast up them

Talking about dangerous breakaways, people should check the gaps further behind for 2024 and 2023 for the lol.

Then they should realize this route has way more altitude gain, tropical weather, and is at 1500m altitude instead of 500m or sea level.

10th place is not gonna be within 5 minutes of Pogacar.

Keep in mind that there's also a health factor in central Africa i.e. stuff like ebola, malaria (it killed Il Campionissimo Fausto Coppi) and other (ie gastric) illnesses. Some guys may feel unwell when meeting micro world there.
Those who go to the WC had to get vaccinated a few months ago.
Coppi died 65 years ago. Today, there are plans for what needs to be done to avoid contracting diseases in certain countries.

There is no vaccine for malaria (only intense pharmacological precaution, which they surely dont do), ebola or those gastric bacteria/virus (most likely to occur). They probably took yellow fever shots plus a couple of others non exclusively tropical diseases.

Its obvious that even a light infection can totally hamper ones WC.

Yes. But you can't compare it to Coppi's time.

A family friend was a missionary in the 90s at Rwanda, and the situation was already better for the workers who went there and didn't contract diseases. Imagine now 30 years later.

I am not saying that Pogi (or anyone else) will die but its a serious illness which can even threaten career, not just WC. Gastric stuff is most likely to occur and derail ones WC of course.

They plan to create a bubble like in the Covid era.

But as I told you, even in the 90s, conditions were "acceptable" for missionaries who were in worse conditions than cyclists in "bubble" hotels.

Are you talking about protesters or police? Because these behaviours only happen with "soft police" (I don't want to risk a ban here). I doubt this can happen in countries like UAE.
No, mate. I'm talking about the problems the people in the country where Pog is going in Africa have.
Cycling is the least of their interests.
I will not say more because a ban is on the menu.
