Losing a second in every corner? Pogacar was annihilated uphill and lost over a minute in the last 6.5 km (and also likely 10 seconds on the first climb).

You either die a hero... or live long enough to become a 'poor bike handler'.

i.e. I can only shrug when I see people attempting to explain the inexplicable by claiming Pog was bad or something. I mean obviously 'no', i.e. he was as good as he was in the final ITT of the 2020 TdF here, in fact arguably better considering the shorter distance.

There was some debate about Rog cracking that day (relatively speaking because he was still fifth) but no such claim can be made about Pog today. He was super quick & demolished Wout van Aert by 1:13 over 22.4km, i.e. perfectly in line with a massive week 3 ITT TdF performance by a GC leader.

It's just the 'other guy' did something no one has seen before. I'll leave it at that. It's got nothing whatsoever to do with bike handling, cornering or whatever. It's all about power numbers.

What do you all think: Pogi not giving a f*** the next days and attacking from very far out? He doesn't strike me as someone who cares about the podium spot if it isn't the first place. And even if, he has a quite big buffer to the guys behind him.
He sure will try. I am his big fan but I think TDF is decided. After seeing Vinge riding today I think there is no way he can be beaten (accidents and bad luck excluded).

I just hoped that suspense would go deep in third week as it is spectacular TDF.

No. If you can't handle the bike you fall. Cornering is a pretty big deal too.

It's mostly about CDA. Which is essentially math.

And then it's about power 😁

I'd take a breath or two before consigning Tadej to robotic behavior. The guy did not have ideal preparation and he was fantastic for most of two weeks. If he recovers tomorrow and takes two minutes back would we believe all is good? That he found Jonas' extraterrestrial power source? Jonas may have used much too much today and tomorrow can hinge on team performance.

We can hope.
On stage 6 Pogi took 23 secs in the last 2km.

Tomorrow is a 28km climb, if Vingo doesn't have the best legs tomorrow he can lose way more than 23 secs.

But I really doubt it. I think it is not a myth that Vingo feels better during the 3rd week.

My pronostic for tomorrow is Pogi tries something 6km out, Vingo sticks to his wheel, counter attacks in the last 3k and takes an other 30 secs.

Interesting ITT.

It's now on Pogi to respond. In my opinion Pogi will bounce back. Still two minutes are a rather big margin in modern cycling. There are still three stages left of GC racing and one when sprinters could affect GC. So maybe stages 19 and 20 are a bit more suitable for an all in longer range attacks. Tomorrow it likely makes sense to focus on that last couple of kilometers. Maybe to try to have Yates in a strong breakaway from early on. The final climb is where one of the duo likely to crack.

Despite thee hyperbole this Tour is far from over. The gap to 3rd is such that he can go all in without much jeopardy. Today’s legs suggest Jonas is in unbelieveable shape and will probably be the stronger of the two in week 3. But jonas has not been soft peddling other stages waiting for the TT. They were all full gas puy de dome and joux plane and there was little between them.

stage 20 is tailor made for Pog.

Is a comeback likely no- will he try, yes. That’s what makes him a champion. Jonas had a great day on the bike. Pog relative to the rest of the peleton didn’t have a bad day he came up against an amazing ride.

I hope he goes ape and launches from the first climb tomorrow and gives JV a horrible day. What’s more likely is they wait for Loze because of the sheer length and he gets dropped by a buoyant Vingo

So it looks like Pog will likely have to settle for another runner-up spot on GC at the Tour. At age 24, he has 10 TDF stage victories, 2 TDF overall wins, another 3 grand tour podiums, multiple week-long stage race GC victories, multiple classics wins, multiple monument wins, etc. With the right prep and no bad luck (injuries or illness), I think he'll have a good chance to beat Vingo at next year's Tour. He has a super domestique in Adam Yates. Maybe UAE will get creative and send Ayuso and/or Almeida to the Tour for additional power. ... This guy is still the best rider in the world. He should even get better.

Problem with the big gap is that Vingegaard doesn't need to panic if Pogacar attacks, use the doms and ride a steady high pace when they are done. Actually think that Pog might crack himself tomorrow and Vinge takes more seconds.
Think Vinge is confident that he can reel Pog in if Pog attacks far out, like he did on stage 14. The climbing difference was significant today.

bro has almost 7 minutes on the podium, which is partly his teammate. He can easily throw caution to the wind, it wont matter.

And I thought we lived for the 10/10 moment where your guy wins a MTT by a good margin. I don‘t know why I thought that, I think I read a post by someone…

My guy lost a MTT and the Tour in the same blow. It was one of the best things that happened to me and my guy. Pogi on the other hand still has a week of racing left. To respond. He lived a bit today and now he can still go for the win.
