Starting his season with Strade and San Remo. Those are difficult races to start with - very high level, one needs good form there to contend for victory. What kind of form will he bring there? Tip-top form, as always in early spring? He's aiming for Giro+Tour so maybe he should be a bit off in early March? These are interesting questions but I don't think Teddy will do Strade+San Remco just as warm-up races, he aims to win them (at least the latter).

Yes, it'll be interesting to see how he'll manage his form, what with the later start of his season and assuming some changes to his training program.

(I'm in a bit of a sulk that the first race is only in March, which is a long time away. However, I'm not grumpy enough to inflict on you all the video posted by Urska Zigart, in which Pogačar does laundry.)

Won’t be at his best yet. But he’ll win probably. Neither MVDP or WVA are riding it. who is going to contest him?

MVDP won't go to San Remco?
Pogi has a real chance in the absence of these two. I reckon that this is a race perhaps harder to win that Roubaix if all the monsters go there. Pogacar will always be the happy-go-lucky trigger in Pogio that starts all the fireworks but his attempt already contains his demise. The ascent is not steep or long enough so he ends up dragging others with a better sprint, punch or descent.

I've took another look at the Giro parcours and Pogačar has to be one of the favourites for around 10 stages. Sure, some will go to the breakaway but with the lack of GC depth there, I believe he can win some 5 stages which would probably be a record for a GT winner in this century as the most that I remember are Nibali and Roglic with 4 stage wins in a single GT.

@Berniece Van der Poel has said in an interview that he will go to MSR though he didn't talk about Strade but I reckon Pogačar's base level could still be enough to challange for the win there.

Armstrong won 5 stages in 2004.

As he is riding for the double, I expect (hope?) Pogačar would hold back as much as possible in the Giro and win with the minimum effort possible? But I wonder if rival teams at the Giro might attack him to force him to ride hard and be left with too little for the Tour?

Maybe the best tactic is to kill the race in the first half and race conservatively in the second. If Pog has large enough advantage other riders won't be really attacking him but fighting for the podium places instead.

That would be true maybe two years ago but I remember a guy that won Lombardia after out-descending the favourites.

You know, some riders have an ability to learn.
I don't know, last year he was always behind Ganna on the descent.

This is about right. As van aert won’t be there and not sure anyone else can outsprint him

He has lost two monuments in sprints. Against Colbrelli/Vermeersch and Asgreen. If there is a chance to get away, he is not going to let the sprint decide.

This year, van der poel doesn't even need to attack on the top of poggio. He just needs to follow pogacar's wheel, and then winning the race in the sprint.
I really doubt Pogacar will ride like last year and pull like a mad man, only to be countered at the top. He's going to wait for his chance, but still his chances are slim when Van der Poel is around. I think those two will neutralize each other, and someone else will pull the win.

With the presence of Van der poel, Pogacar has not other chance than attack on Poggio. If he wants to win, he needs to drop van der poel, otherwise, he will lose in the sprint.....

It's a plausible scenario.
