Of course not the best start for UAE. But people going too far in this forum. So tried to real all this comments like
“he is washed” “merckx would have won by 5 minutes” and see the same user just keep posting the same thing over and over again. Grow up, give us your thoughts instead of just trolling. You known who you are.

Pogacar was the strongest today and was unfortunately forced to have to attack from the bottom of the last climb.
His biggest and probably only headache tonight is his team. But that I would also say is a bit worrying for him, probably not for the Giro win. But for all the extra energy he gonna use that he should have kept for the Tour.

Anyway there was always wins for UAE today. Both Bora and Ineos second leaders look bad and lost time.

I think we got a lot of answers today.
UAE’s team look bad.
The other GC riders not good enough to follow Pogacar.
Ineos on paper have the strongest team but also looked bad today besides Narvaez.

Well 7 wins out of 10 before today was at least as strong a showing as previous years. He might have started this Giro, however, at 90 percent in light of the Tour.

We will never know that. His true level is only showed when Vingegaard is racing against him (and I think we can say the same about Vingegaard). Today was a stage for punchers and very short to see the true level of some gc contenders. Tomorrow we will have a better picture but I have some doubts about Pogacar's level, I don't think he prepared to be at 100%.

You are very likely right but let's judge how strong he is after the Giro and even more so after the Tour. Let's not firget that he has a way bigger task than wearing the pink jersey from day one.

P.s I'm confident that he would win if OAE were strong enough to do a proper lead-out on San Vito.

It's nice after all the discourses , about how much Pogacar will try to kill the race in the first week, or win the Giro whilst taking it easy, to be reminded that he can be beaten not only by MVDP and the fisherman. It was a bit arrogant from a lot of pundits and some of his fans I think. Anyway it doesn't change the fact that he is still the overwhelming favourite for this giro, and already advantage now.

That narrative is also popular with people who aren't fans of his.

Yes the more the climb went on today the more I was starting to think that he was very lucky in Liege that neither Narvaez, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, Roglic, Nordhagen or Joseph Blackmore were there, rode well but benefitted from a weak field.

I am more impressed about Narvaez. These numbers are normal for Pogi but Narvaez probably made his best career performance. Chapeau to him!

You're new here so here's how this couching stuff works: You set up a claim up front, a target if you will, and then you watch the race or the segment and whatever happens, your claim is now supported by facts - and you can now go and write all about it on the forum

That being said, I tend to agree with @Froome that being unable to drop Schachmann and Narvaez on a climb like that points to the assumption that if this was TdF, Pog would not be able to drop Vingegaard either - hence currently not stronger than previous years. The only problem is this is not the Tour but the beginning of the Giro with Tour still to come and there he could in fact prove to be much stronger than here. In fact - if he is serious about winning both, this is the way to go (minus burning out his team for little gain, of course...)

I mean that if a guy wants to do two GTs he will want to improve especially in other types of efforts. Let's sit back and see more before analyzing too much of a steep 1km and a great performance from Narvaez.
