Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

Page 953 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Not sure he doesn't like the vuelta. Pogi himself doesn't make such statements, nor would the team (or teammates). @mou on the other hand would and the closest he's come to saying pogi doesn't like a race is le tour.

I gotta admit Pogi often talk about how much he loves the spring classics, and now he also talked about how much he dreams to defend his jersey in the WC.
But when he talks about the TdF he is always saying " yea well the TdF is the biggest race so I have to be there..." . Like it is a chore haha

His program is dialed in everyone relax, barring any crashes/injuries he is going to do the Vuelta this year.

Pogacar himself said way before the program was planned he wanted to do more race days than last year, that he feelt he could do it and that was all he knew so far, count the race days and we all know he aint doing the Giro(extremely unlikely.)

Yes but his racing program is lacking a period of rest.

I know its also not the optimal prep for WC which we know its a big goal of his. But neither is the Giro before the Tour. This guy isnt normal all the normal norms we know doesnt applie in the same sense to him. Its a long way to that and if he crash the equation changes, it requires he is fit after the Tour with not setbacks im sure.

He will ride the Vuelta as prep and win it and if Vingegaard is there he has to ride it in zone 3 instead of zone 2 and be a bit more coocked for the WC, sure maybe then he cant dish up a 100km from the line dish, and have to setttle with a 25km paella instead, its all good he has plenty to go on.

Yeah, but three of them were injured, especially one of them who almost died in April.
Naah, he didn't looke very injured in stage 11.
And since when injured riders casually destroy Pantani's records?

Just to clarify, I have no doubt Vinge can be better. But to always brag about "injured" seems like downplaying what Pogacar did.
Also I'm fairly sure that last year you were saying that if Vingegaard is within 2 minutes before the Pyrenees he'll win the Tour. As, you know, "he's better in the high mountains"...

Word. Its like a broken clock. Vingegaard wasnt injured, he was better than ever can we stop making stuff up. You have Grischa you have Jorgenson, Vingegaard all saying he was better than he ever and you have all the numbers saying so, this isnt rocket science, what are we even doing here:tearsofjoy:

Everyone knows this, everyone also knows that all logic says Jonas likely coulda been a little better with even better prep, thats very likely, what is the problem? He is great, even fanstastic historically and way better than his palmares says, Pogacar just happens to be better at every single thing and honestly thats no shame, he is the best rider that has ever lived. Going further, basic human physiology Jonas is likely more tapped in terms of his potential than others aswell. (not a fact just likely)

My allegiance are always to the road and simple facts, never Pogacar, I honestly couldnt care less, or any other rider, the road tells the story and its very obvious. Just annoying/hard for me to take the few people serious when cant just stick to facts just to paint a narrative which are fiction, there is no need. It isnt hard saying one thing and simultaneously say another imo.

Anyway moving on point of mine was were lucky to have the 4 best GC riders at the time in the same Tour, even if it wasnt close in standings, its not the usual precedence and we get it next year aswell thats good times.

I know Pogacar can do it but I'm afraid he will be too spent after the Vuelta. One thing is racing against 2nd tier GT riders. Other thing is having Vingegaard as opponent for six weeks. He can't be at 90% so I think he will be very tired in Rwanda. I was already expecting another 100 km solo
Arguably, he came out of the TDF stronger than he was in Giro, so going Vuelta then WC is very doable for Pog.

He even hinted at the WC TT in that video

The explanation why he is now returning to the spring classics speaks volumes. “Simple: because I like them! I like the way of racing, the racing style and I like the Belgian fans. They create a cycling atmosphere as it should be in their classics. That is why I am really looking forward to it. And yes, Gent-Wevelgem is a bit of a strange race for me. I see it as a challenge, we will see how it goes. It might go horribly wrong, but I am looking forward to that too. I think that trying new races makes me more complete as a rider. In general, it is good for my feeling on the bike.”

And then there will definitely be the World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda. “The course there is even tougher than it was in Zurich. You need a good pair of climbing legs again. And there are tough weather conditions. It will be hot and humid. The altitude (about 1500 meters above sea level, ed.) will also play a role. You really have to be physically fit and maybe even go there early. I might also do the World Championship time trial this year. Of course, the Tour is always the biggest challenge, but my biggest wish is to extend my world title. Winning the rainbow jersey once is incredible. Now that I can wear it, I feel really proud of it. It's really great. I don't want to let go of that.”

Though, I don't understand how/why the Giro is still on the table for 2025.
Makes no sense to me. I'm hoping he is mostly saying it for the sake of it, for good PR and 'cause you never know.

Soler already stated Pogi will race Tour and Vuelta. Giro is off the table for sure.
