As mentioned earlier: If I wasn't for the two cyclocross guys, he would easily have been the next Eddy Merckx with no serious competition.

Therefore it is also quite surprising to me that the quality of the Giro field is not that high.

really?

I’m not at all.

No TT basically so it gets what it deserves a second class field for a second class event which no longer tests what a GT should test.

Wait, this means he's going to Paris-Roubaix or am I unfortunately missing some joke here?
Maybe yes, maybe no. He could also just be joking. It all depends on if Pog really wants to go there and if the team agrees to take him there. PR definitely carries big risk.

Rarely have we seen someone be this strong in Flanders. This is some absolute peak Cancellara or Boonen stuff!

Hoping he goes to Roubaix! He has the Tour sealed up anyways more or less, doesnt he ;)

I don't know, he didn't even manage to go clear at any point, couldn't even drop a subpar Asgreen. On Kwaremont he only gapped Küng and Pidcock by ~4''. Overrated.

I dont think we watched the same race. Pogacar accelerated on every climb from 55 km to go, and even before on Berg ten Houte as well, and was basically the sole aggressor in the race. I will remember the 2nd time on Kwaremont for a while, the images of him motoring past everyone was pretty epic. 3rd time straight up gapping the whole break apart from VDP from the get-go, almost dropping him on Paterberg, a more than solid attack on Koppenberg as well.

And sure he didnt drop Asgreen on Kwaremont, but how did that next climb go for Kasper after following his wheel on Kwaremont?

He's 23 but yeah, Van Der Poel and Mohoric deserve credit too.
The comparison is inappropriate, because neither Van der Poel nor Mohoric can even come remotely close to winning the Tour. That is a fact. Merckx, like Hinault, won gts, monuments and worlds. That's the type of beast we are dealing with in the Slovenian. It truly is mind boggling.

He made the race really epic. His second time in a cobbles race... in the De Ronde. What a rider! He races like no other rider with probably the only exception being the guy who won today. Who was very much on defense today. MVDP really had to be as great as he can to win this one and it was a great battle in the end, where tactics and a great acceleration sealed it.

A lot of people seems to view Pog as a villain now, at least on here, and I just find that to be really sad and miserable for them. I like to watch and enjoy greatness when I see it and there were two riders out there today that I hope we will get to see many more times. I dont take nothing for granted.
