So a surgery, not good. Maybe it will impact his Tour preparations but in this case there is also another option - prepare 100 % for Vuelta.

An anti climactic, unfortunate, and potentially disastrous end to a fantastic spring! I hope that he is mentally ready for some long hard hours on the stationary trainer.
I think he'll do just fine. It'll be a different challenge for him, no doubt, but there's enough time and he was due for a rest, so I doubt his Tour prep is overly compromised. Sucks though

It’s a bit early to be writing his TdF off. It’s obviously not ideal but his ability to train shouldn’t be affected much and he has lots of time to get ready. If he shows up at a prep race clearly out of sorts then it’s time to panic but not before then

Doubt he lines up in July considering he's going for surgery.
Well, wouldn't go that far. If you break a small bone in your wrist, you usually have to have surgery to keep everything in place. I guess, he still can be on a bike quickly enough again.
But the question is rather if he should go to the Tour if he can only reach 95% and get humilated by Vingegaard. Sure, the distance to the rest of the field might still mean he finishes on the podium but a Vuelta and Lombardy would also be nice.

It's pointless to start downplaying the severity of the injury or talking about how he can still be 100% in two months time.

No one wants to break their wrist 9 weeks before the TdF. It's a cr*p thing to happen & big shame. Injuries & crashes keep on robbing cycling fans of some of the epic moments we all wait for, in this instance it was Liège that was ruined from an entertainment perspective.

But that's just part of the sport, unfortunately. It could happen to any rider at any moment, even in training.

He cant grab a handlebar and will likely lose some muscle strength.

Not that these guys have much arm muscles as is but still, it is something to consider.

Terrible thing to happen damn. Not quite Contador v Froome 2014 level but still just terrible.

I hope he recovers well. I would prefer him going for Vuelta + Worlds and Lombardia. Winning Worlds would be as good as the Tour at this point in his career imo.

Cringegaard can be taken care off in 2024

Nothing can be as good as the Tour. It's the biggest cycling race and he has unfinished business with Vingegaard

Glasgow is two weeks after the Tour.
