That era would pisspound todays era. It was a brutally physical game back thenJordan played against literal grocery baggers. Weak era, very watered down. JaVale McGee would be considered an all-time great playing against Greg Ostertag.

Robinson was very good on both sides of the field, while if Vingo stepped on Flanders, he would break both arms and legsVingo is David Robinson. Damn good but just kinda there
The majority of 90s players would be unplayable today due to lack of outside shooting. They’d get run off the floor. You’re too high on nostalgia. The game right now is better than its ever been. That era would pisspound todays era. It was a brutally physical game back then
It is a very different game now yes. And Jordan was a unique specimen that would dominate todays game tooThe majority of 90s players would be unplayable today due to lack of outside shooting. @scribers that you and I are not related? We agree on 99% of thingsThat era would pisspound todays era. It was a brutally physical game back then
BroOn second thought, this analogy is pretty good. Pogacar is Jordan, because he ain’t the GOAT like LeBron.
If direct match-up is the measure, does that mean that Indurain is the GOAT of cycling? The majority of 90s players would be unplayable today due to lack of outside shooting. They’d get run off the floor. You’re too high on nostalgia. The game right now is better than its ever been.
It is not a question of quantity, but diversity. If someone can win Roubaix and Lombardía is from another Planet...if he IS even podium at both IS amazing...and if one is able tobwin Flandes and Lombardía is quite amazing, more if you beat today amazing riders for cobblestones. If we look at it ultra realistically, Pog is on a special level even compared to MVP for classics, Strade Bianche Pog, San Remo 65:35 MVP, Flanders 60:40 Pog, Roubaix MVP, Liege Pog, Lombardia Pog, whether people want to admit it or not if we include Strada in the monuments, Pog is the clear favorite in 3 races, two races are open and 1 race goes smoothly MVP

They are doing mental gymnastics as usual. If direct match-up is the measure, does that mean that Indurain is the GOAT of cycling?
The conditions for 2025 are Bianche and Flanders, Matxin can put together what he wants, but those 2 races are Pog's express desire and he prefers the Giro to the Tour, but because of the sponsor he has toAssuming he can prevail in the giro this year, back to a full focus on spring classics campaign for pogi in 2025?
if you ask me, what will his schedule look like if he wins on Saturday San Remo, for 2025 - Strade Bianche, 3 weeks training then Flanders, 2 weeks training then Liege, Giro, altitude camp, Tour, rest 3 weeks, 6 weeks training then world ,Lombardy...How about P-R?
Hoping he can prevail again in the tour and turn his attention to other goals on the calendar. It's insane to track a rider attempting all of this stuff. I always assumed Merckx was a product of the times when not as many riders were as serious and/or specifically trained for terrains. And I am probably unfairly wrong at that. But to see a current rider with these qualities picking off impossible tasks is a joy.P-R maybe only from 2026
It would be extremely fun if both Vingo and Pogacar made the Giro their main aim next year, while both also trying the Giro-Tour double. Might even make the Tour an even four/five horse race.
I don't see a world in which this'll happen as the days of targeting the Giro over the Tour seem behind us (potentially also in front of us, no guarantee that this is a permanent state) but Vingo and Pog are both good enough to fight for the TdF win vs Remco and Roglic on a Giro hangover so perhaps sponsors can be convinced.
