Think Pog played it perfectly today. Some argue that he should have attacked earlier, that it would distanced Vinge even further. Maybe, but it is more of a gamble and it gives Vinge more room to avoid going into red and settle in to his own pace. Instead Pog wisely used one of his strenghts over Vinge: his explosiveness and ability to push tremendous watts for a couple of minutes making it almost impossible for anyone to follow. And when the separation was created the downhill came where he knew that a lighter Vinge would have a hard time to closing the gap.

Pog must also be very happy with his team today, must give him further confidence. Politt, Almeida and Ayuso were incredible.

According to the newest forecast pleasant weather for the whole week. Next week maybe but too soon to say that any major heat-wave is coming.
Legend.

Agree. I think he would on any other climb with steeper gradients and not headwind which was terrible for the sort of climb they did today. So indeed today prefectly but was it steeper etc it would have gotten ugly i think. Vingegaard blew up trying to follow him even here and just after 5-600 meter couldnt sustain it and was totally empty at the top.

Wonder what can expect of Pogacar curve after the Giro now that one is still up in the air duo to the Giro.

Big fan of what UAE and Pogacar did today, mighty impressive.
But tour is not in the bag yet. This advantage is really low. Imo they need to have Almeida or Ayuso attack in next mountain stages, to make Vingegaard or Remco work. Then Pog to sprint for bonus seconds.

As people thinks Pogacar will fade in the 3rd week, they also think Jonas will grow. I wouldn't be so sure. Pogacar did a walk in the park compared his opponents and his entourage still claims he's in best shape e fresh after the Giro.
About Jonas, even if he can put kms on his legs we mustn't forget his hospitalized period and the following days with no training. This "hole" in the preparation plan could be not easy to fill , even putting kms in his legs. It's all terribly unsure.

Evenpoel is also lurking and judging by today I would be more worried about Evenpoel than Vingegaard.

Pogacar seem to climb better than anyone, ive never seen anyone this year beeing able to sit on his wheel even for more than 1k when he goes, and they all blow up if they try. So be it liege, giro or here now. My concern for Pogacar is the same concern everyone has and thats the Giro fatigue. Alot to race for still alot.

I agree and don't understand the knee-jerk "Jonas will get better" thinking. Maybe he will, but I think entirely possible that he collapses later in the race as his body is just not yet ready to manage the workload. After all, Pogacar didn't get better last year when the situation was reversed.

I agree with this assessment.

Pogacar can put 2 minutes on Evenepoel whenever he wants. It is all about Jonas and he knows that. In 800 m, he put 15 seconds on Evenepoel.

Sure but evenpoel impressed today. Vingegaad blew himself completely trying to follow Pogacar and was visually totally empty at the top. Evenpoel looked better at the end by far was only my point.

Nevertheless it doesnt matter Pogacar is clearly leagues above everyone as expected the only concern is the Giro fatigue or crash.
