There is no way, he is doing "just that". He said for Slovenian media, he is doing 2 GT next year. If he really rides just TDF then he is doing Basque or P-R and there is no way he is skipping both.
I reckon that privately the door remains wide open for P-R but they won’t pull the trigger on that plan unless he wins MSR and Flanders beforehand.
Being as per our friend @mou, has said there are some holes that need filling, you are correct.. he is not just doing that.

Yes. The guy replied to me (he was right) saying Flanders and Basque is almost impossible to ride in the same year because is just one day between those races ( and i thought 2). But , am i sure he will go after Basque pretty soon just maybe not next year. I think he will also observe MVDP form. If MvDP is not in best shape, then he will ride E3, Flanders and P-R. I can't wait to see his schedule and i really hope he doesn't go to vuelta, since winning WC TT and RR (and 5th Lombardie)is worth more than Vuelta. Yes he can win it all, but why risk such a amazing oportunity.
He can be the third rider to win Giro-Tour and Tour-Vuelta. More legendary than another WC
maybe more legendary but not smartest (my opinion) thing to try next year. Rwanda RR and ITT profile is just perfect for him and he will probably never have such a chance (winning double would be also crazy).. Also Lombardie 5th time straight would be legendary. He could do Tour-Vuelta every year after.
It's not crazy? How many riders did it in same year? I agree with you Tour-Vuelta being more difficult but i am talking about not doing it next year. After that, he should go for it.
WC TT only exists since 1994. Merckx would have plenty of WC doubles in his era if there were WC TTs. Hinault would win too. I can't understand who just see the result and not the context
Really? Carlos Sastre (no disrespect) was able to finish 1st and 3rd. Froome has 1st and 2nd and 1st and 1st. Vingegaard has 1st and 2nd (and we know he could've won even without special preparatio. Heck, even Roglic has 2nd and 3rd And these are pretty much all the attempts in the last 30 years.
That is 30 years !!! So how many years do you wanna wait for becoming it relevant? Because strade didn't exist back then and olimpics was just for amateur those palmares shouldn't count for future??? I don't get what is so hard to understand. I hope he doesn't ride Vuelta next year(!!!) and he concentrate on WC RR and TT and winning 5th straight Lombardie.
Froome is a top10 GT rider of all times. Of course Giro-Tour is harder but Tour-Vuelta is still more difficult and prestigious than WC double
Pretty much every attempt for a Tour-Vuelta double has finished with 2 podiums (slightly better circumstances and we'd have like 3 doubles out of 5 attempts).
6 weeks of consistency. Put a route tailormade for Cancellara (like 2020 WC) in his prime and he would win a WC double. Other thing very important, 10 years ago, time gap between the TT and the road race was 4 days
Let Vingegaard race Kuss and you'd have 2 doubles. Prevent an ambush on a silly medium mountain stage and you have 3 doubles out of how much? 4 attempts? With the other 1 being 1st and 3rd by Carlos Sastre...
