One more reason to consider cycling less popular nowadays compared to 20 years ago.
''The Tour de France's global audience has grown significantly. The 2023 edition attracted an estimated 3.5 billion viewers worldwide, compared to around 2 billion viewers in 2000.''

How is that even a discussion from you I genuinly dont get it. 75% increase almost double the intereset. Should be really obvious that cycling has never been bigger from the money alone it gather, but I genuinly dont understand how this is even something you think or discussion to be had as its not in fact a discussion at all its very obvious.<

Cycling has never been bigger or more popular, read the numbers if your confused.

Like I said previously, it was a opinion based on feeling (cycling lost a lot of credibility after LA "confession"), I could be wrong. And after your post, I'm the first one to admit I was wrong.
Cheers mate.

If you based it on feels and opinion and could be wrong i didnt see that, its all good.
I just find it so weird (not from you alone) but sorry for rant but when its that factually incorrect and easy I just dont get the discussion, thats all, sorry.

Yeah but its clearly never been bigger and still growing, 2024 numbers arent out but I wouldnt be surprised if its closer to 4 billion then 3.5 billion based on annual growth recent years alone.
Cycling is in a golden era and blossoming like never before my friend.

Pogacar NOT in contention for BBC World Sports Star of the Year.

Jacques Anquetil and Lance Armstrong remain the only cyclists ever to win the award.

He is not a personality so popular or likable, like some riders of the past.

Guys like Pantani, Hinault would certainly be in contention for this award.

You aren't wrong to think that though, Armstrong was one of the most famous people in the world full stop in the early 2000s, the closest thing cycling has ever had to a Muhammad Ali type mainstream figure. Nobody today comes even remotely close and anyone who was watching back then would say the same. I know about 3 people who could tell you who Pogacar, Vingegaard or Van Der Poel are, everyone over the age of 16 could tell you who Lance is even now, despite his transgressions.

3.5 billion people have been allegedly watching the tour every year since I started watching, it was as nonsense then as it is now, it's based on how many people saw 1 minute of racing throughout the week.

Here's the claim being made in 2014;

And 2016;

And 2020;

So cycling is clearly less popular now, as 3.5 billion is a smaller percentage of world population today than it was in 2014. ;)

And I think so as well.

MSR, Ronde, LBL, Tour, Worlds and Lombardia are the main targets.

He does Suisse or Dauphine before the Tour, everything goes to plan in the Tour, I dont think he will go Vuelta.

He will a short break in May. Then a short break in August also.
Indeed its clear what the goals are. But im certain he will be in the Vuelta barring any crash or setbacks, lets see.

''Pogačar to ride either Giro d'Italia or Vuelta a España in 2025''

When did he do this?

He can't show signs of defeat before the season start. That would be stupid.
Yeah but we can understand from his comments jonas is gonna give his all for the tour & likely wont do the giro which would be music to roglics ears and another chance for us to see the top two gc riders battling before the tour at dauphine

If he does the Vuelta, or they really think he will, he might just forego racing in June. However, this is Pogi and he'll probably zone 2 a Suisse win.
