Last year it looked like pogi was at 20th position and his train had to come from at least 30th. No idea if they’ve made the adjustment necessary but the real race here is to the foot of the cipressa. UAE knows they need to lead here to launch and everyone else knows they need to block here to stay in it.

Which is easier said than done with +6 teams trying to position themselves before Cipressa.

But Cipressa is narrow. Last year the teams being first into the climb spread out on the road and there was no road left to get around them for some time. Could happen again.

Ideally they lead from the foot to avoid blockages, but if they are fully composed they can come in complete from 10-20 and quickly do damage. Maybe the carcasses they scatter cause more blockage

Big boys will block Teddy's petite climbers. Politt is the only one with enough elbow power.

The issue last year is they wasted so much energy reforming train composition you could see del toro going full gas just to rejoin pogi. He has little left to create damage up the hill

The tough part of Cipressa isn‘t endless, you can‘t just wait a kilometer and slowly ride to the front, that would be easier on the big sprinters who are obviously good at short efforts.

People should take a look at Strava power numbers for the laughs. Bottom of the Cipressa is basically the most intense part of the race outside of the final km of the Poggio, it is absolutely pivotal to be in front there.

Cipressa is "hard" in the first 3 km so it is obvious UAE cannot be in the back or middle of the peloton.
