It's really hard to not see him winning today, specially with Bora working too.
Today is the day he can finish this legendary classics season.

In short among much more which been pointed out, the competition is so much higher these days because the sport has 100x more people doing it and especially since its never been more specialized than it is now.

It should go without saying that specialization raises the level significantly in each area, dah...which in turn makes competing across different areas incredibly more difficult. Imagine that needs to be explained.
