Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

The second week the route really suited me, I rode the time trial superbly, and then came the last week. I wanted to win in the Alps, especially to get revenge on the Loze Pass. To be honest, not everything went according to plan. One day after Ventoux I had problems with my knee and there were doubts whether I would be able to continue at all. The weather was bad, it was very cold.

"My body was in shock, I didn't feel my best. But a three-week race is not easy, every cyclist has problems. We are often tired after the first week, and then you have two more "

The knee stuff is new for me, maybe then he didn't have the flu despite him dressing up as if it's winter after every stage, but rather after the crash and big efforts the 2 days after, the injuries caught up to him and put his body into a shock. Luckily the Ventoux stage was sunny at least, could've been a worse end otherwise.
Which race is Pogačar's best in his career? " We were thinking about this in the car on the way back from Lombardy, and I think last year's World Championship was still my best race. It's hard to choose one, but last year I became world champion for the first time, it was less expected than this year. I arrived at the finish line broken, completely tired, I will never forget that. "

What I thought, he still had a lot in the tank in Kigali. He was cruising there.

It's not blindingly obvious to me. I don't see how it can be blindingly obvious to anyone who doesn't come to the situation with a particular mindset.

Feel free to have that mindset, just don't expect everyone to share it.
So what are your thoughts? How can you explain Pogacar to be at Vingegaard's level (in the last week) when he was clearly stronger in the second week.

Like you seemingly having a particular mindset towards the rider, situation [deleted]?

it's not a question of mindset, but of analysing facts. Pogacar in week 3 of the tour was significantly below his top level (the level he had in the first 2 weeks or in week 3 of tour 2024 or even in lombardia a few days ago). That is just a fact, supported by the numbers he did on long climbs and the gaps with respect to the others. And pogacar himself just confirmed it. He literally said he had knee problems and his body "was in shock". So nothing to do with anyone's mindset, it's just analysing facts in an objective way

On the grounds that, time trials aside, there had been precisely one stage on which he had taken an appreciable amount of time;
The nature of a grand tour as a test to see whether form will be maintained for three weeks;
possibility of illness;
riding defensively with a view to the rest of the season.

There are a number of possibilities.

You should count the TT since it was a MTT and Pogacar was clearly better than Vingegaard there.
But it's "obvious" Pogacar was a step below the level he showed in the second week. So the user you replied is right and there was something wrong with Pogacar (I don't know the reason, maybe sickness, his knee, etc) because he didn't show the same level he showed in the first two weeks.

Now you are one of the forum members who I would have been fairly sure would know that they are not related. Did you find a way of posting an invisible smiley?
Hah! I KNEW right in the moment as I got a note with a quote on my post, that there would be some kind of correction :D No, total honest answer, I don't know how my grey substance between my ears forgot that in the writing. Embarrasing :rolleyes:
Especially since this is my second embarrasment, since I looked it up ages ago, a few months shortly after Florian did pretty well at the cobbles and watched a hilly race and thought "gosh what a multi talent" and found out about Gianni vs. Florian.
Can I be excused by some pretty busy weeks? :p
