I wonder if he doesnt want to come back to Sanremo now that he has won there or if there is a deal with his team that once he has won all monuments the focus goes back to GTs. Gianettis reaction right after the race kinda sounded like he was relieved he could focus more on the tour again.
This was the hardest one.

I think everyone was just happy they finally could get it.

Not reading into it more than that. He will still target monuments and other big races.

I think it depends on Roubaix.
If he wins Roubaix (and all 5 this year) he may not come back.
If he doesn't win Roubaix I think he'll come back in order to fry and win all 5 in the same year

I think Roubaix is the one that he now cares about most. He obviously wants the Vuelta but the Monuments clearly mean most for him at this stage.
Roubaix means a lot more.

Nobody would doubt that a GT rider who wins 4 TdFs and is also a great 'puncher' who wins RVV and multiple other monuments, is potentially able to win Vuelta.

On the other hand, a couple of years ago people were still saying that even 'top 5' at Roubaix would've been out of reach... because he wasn't a 70kg cyclist and such.

Plenty of guys won both TdF & Vuelta.
No one won TdF and Roubaix... during the last 40 years (Hinault 1981).

I dont think winning them all in the same year primarily is the goal.

It is just trying to win each one at some point and become a rider that has won them all, which very few has done.

Then maybe he will start to think about if he can win as many monuments as Merckx or a couple more, but firstly the goal is having won all five at least once.

This was crazy
There was a moment i was even shouting
He fell
He got up
Alpecin riding hard and fast
Gap was noticeable and Cipressa was there
I was OMG this is so over
And then it was party time
I couldn't believe it
Felt like Pantani riding at Oropa
There were three
Thought MDVP had it in the bag
Then Poggio and I was OMG again
White flag for MDVP
Impossible
Pidcock is fast
But there's history to be made

This is a fairytale
I love cycling 😍

I think above all MSR requires a lot of time and methodological and specific training for him. Time which will free up alot for other adventures possible. He wanne win different things as that clearly intrigue and motivates him.

I dont believe either he will ride MSR the next 3 years. Tour I think he will im under no illusion and certaintly think that he wanne take the stage record too, dont think he stops doing the Tour untill that is the case if hes still capable

Being this close to actually achieve it, I think it will start coming to his mind.
And if he enjoys classics more, easy decision .

It is about winning all five at least once.

Then it is probably to try to get closer to Merckx amount of wins in total in the monuments.

This winning all five in the same season is not the target going into it, but if it happens it would be quite cool.

The point is, if he is about to go to PR next season (because he hasn't won it), it's all but sure he goes to Sanremo.
If he wins PR, but fails for whatever reason in some of the other monuments, I also see him trying towin all 5 in the same season. He seems to enjoy the classics more, so I won't be surprised if it turns to be a big goal for him.

Again, the goal isnt to win them all in one season. It would be primarily to firstly win all of them at least once and secondly as many in total to potentially getting close to matching Merckx record, or setting one of his own.

Winning them all in one season... would just be cool if it happened like that.

More so likely he could maybe do Vuelta in 2027 imo.
The problem is that 2027's WC suits him perfectly.

2028 is the year when the WC is supposed to be flat/for sprinters.

Then maybe 2028 sounds better, depending on how it works with Olympics and if he will do classics and/or Tour.

He has to remove something to make it work.

What a glorious moment, he is the GOAT of this sport.

I can’t help but make a small mention of all the “experts” who said repeating the tactic wasn’t a good idea, or that the team should focus on a two-leader approach with Pogacar and Del Toro. Hilarious, it almost seems like people still haven’t realized by now that Pogacar isn’t just better than the others, he’s much better, both physically and mentally. What a beautiful day.

yes you can, do you really think narvaez would prefer riding down under (which he has already won) or increase his chances to race without pogacar in Gand, E3, Amstel. ...

but if he would prefer having a chance in Gand, E3, Amstel or Basque country...

I don't know if you realise but the cycling season is huge, do you really need the list? E3, Gand, Amstel, Catalunya, Fleche, Brabantse, Basque Country,...

What on earth is Gand?

Ghent in French and Italian, proposal to ban anyone who calls the race „In Flanders Fields- From Middelkerke to Wevelgem“ instead.

It works for GW, but if you start talking about Milano or Paris it won't necessarily be easy to decipher which race you're referring to.

2027 WCs are BEFORE the Vuelta in 2027 as they are the ‘Super Worlds’ again as in Glasgow 2023 so he could go for La Vuelta afterwards without compromising the Worlds.

We’re very likely looking at a clean sweep of the 5 Monuments plus some other notable races, the World Championship and Tour de France. Something that not even Merckx came close.

Not only does he finally do it, he does it in a way you can't forget. Pure Cinema.

Pidcock had me so worried, what a ride from him.

Merckx faced much stiffer competition from generational greats like De Vlaeminck, Gimondi and Godefroot.

The "experts" were also saying that Pogacar should be a co-leader for the Tour with Ayuso in 2024 because "he can't beat Jonas there anymore"
