Why did Contador have to pull?
He wasn't going to gain any significant time for the GC.
If Vino (nevermind the others) catches up, J. Rodriguez's chances diminish. Rodriguez would have had to pull, increasing AC's chances of taking the stage, and if he didn't and hesitated for a while, Vino could have made a comeback.

I found a movie with Vino on the cover that explains it all

I doubt, Alberto did 80% of the job. Rodriguez just sucked his wheel. Vino lost 4 seconds on 1,5km. Hi didn't crack.

Correct. He cost his teammate the stage win and didn't even pull out the victory himself.

If Contadope stayed on AS wheel and let Rodriguez go, Vino could have stayed on Rods wheel until the end. Vino did not crack.

Oh well... the tour is always filled with coulda shoulda wouldas...

So putting 10 seconds into AS who is obviously not as strong as Contador on the steeper climbs was worth wasting a Stage win for Vino?

You did spot that there are other riders on the road too, yes?

Sure, don't take 10 secs on the guy you are trailing and watch Vino lose the stage to Ridriguez anyway makes so much more sense.

Good luck stirring.

AS was obviously not as strong as AC?? Are you watching the raise or Radioshack's stream does not show the front of the race anymore?:D
HELLO, I'm a LA hater, I laugh at Radioshack, and I still tink AS was obviously not as strong as AC.

I have no doubt most LA fanboys are voicing their concern about AC's ride today because they hate him and all, but I think there's actual grounds to have a little discussion about actual cycling here, if you guys stop the strawmen.

Can we please put this idea that Contador attacking took the stage win away from Vino to bed? It's simply wrong. Rodriguez had already gone when Alberto attacked, if he hadn't then Rodriguez still would have caught and passed Vino and won the stage.

Have you guys watched the stage? Contador pulled Rodriguez up to Vino. Did you guys see Vino when he crossed the line? He was obviously pretty ****ed off with his hand gestures, after he saw what happened in front of him with Rodriguez sprinting over Contador. I am sure there will be some friction in that bus today. It's 10 seconds or Vino attempt of winning stage.

Wow it seems that the fanboys from the Lance thread are moving here now!

Don't hate Alberto, he is a great champion and a classy person :D

Great day of racing, can't wait to see Andy's comments after this probably something along the lines of "Had a bad day..." but he should be worried now..

Can't wait for tomorrow's stage!

Did no one see Rodriguez attack, getting up to Vino.
So Bertie marked him up to Vino and at that stage the great man had nothing at that steep point with Rodriguez going away?
What was he suppose to do?

I have to agree with you. the schizophrenia with which the relationship is (mis)characterized by the folks here is like a rollercoaster ride.

It's difficult for those who rely on Phil and Paul to explain to them what's happening in a bike race to make the adjustment when the facts so clearly get in the way.

One must hang on to the idea that "Vino bad".

That said. I think it would have been nice for vino to get the win. The climb wasn't long enough for the tactic Astana used.

So... Which other team leaders have intentionally dropped GC seconds for the sake of a teammate?

Basso - no
Contador - no
Gesink - No
Kreuziger - No
Menchov - No
Rodriguez - No
Sanchez - No
Schleck - No
JVdB - No

But Contador is selfish and not a team man!

Ok I was about to write some stuff about this stage, but the quality of comments are dropping badly again.
Today during the first hours of the stage it was nice reading the posts and commenting, but right now idiocy is controlling the thread.

awesome ride by the boys today. was good to see contador try to let vino latch on...but i'm pretty sure his DS was on the earpiece screaming "venga venga venga" to put time on Andy Schleck.

Agree with most of you here, I would have wanted to see Vino win a stage too.

Contador ka din ba pre?:)
