It's not that big a deal I would think, they can afford to let Vino have 5 minutes easily, .

i disagree. this would put him close enough on the gc to force saxo to chase any future attack from him, a card i can see astana playing. this could burn up saxo's domestiques.

Charteau in the break but not Pineau. The KOM for this stage will be sewn up unless the break is caught.

i think its sewn up anyway. if the peleton bring this back on the cat 2 pineau will be out the back.

Gap going out. with 18 riders and with Ryder and Vino up there, Saxo will need help from other teams, or we could have another L'Aquila.

If they stay away, the Shack look to have possibly another stage win, since Kloden should out-climb the rest, including the Kazakh.

I doubt it. I don't see him winning it, maybe i'm wrong tho :D

Kudos to Hushovd for going all out again, but I don't like this. Same with winning the KOM only by being in break aways. Intermediate sprints should only count in groups of more than 30 people.

Yeah, flame me :D

Rabo has no riders in the breakaway group... again.
Sure they got 2 guys in the top10, but I would appreciate some more offensive riding from riders like Boom and Tankink.

Anyways this could mean that Saxo has some allies to chase the breakaway.

His climbing this Tour has been dreadful--certainly compared to last year.

L'aquila had 50 some riders in the break with many actual domestiques willing to go all out to lengthen the gap, in this break I think only Klöden, Vino and Hesjedal cares about anything but the stage win and I don't think any of them have team mates in the break. While the situation is hardly optimal for Saxo I think you're overstating the problem.

Of course I am.
Others are not represented, so they will aid Saxo to control the gap.
We can see that it is now holding at around 2'10".

Boom has been on the attack for a second today ;) But you're right, they do seem a little lacklustre in trying to be in the breakaway.

According to cyclingnews Lars Boom made an early attack and was chased down.

According to the official ticker, Cedric Vasseur has my back and is also predicting a win for Hes-Jay. I always new Ced was a stand-up guy.

That's a valid point, I'll rephrase it, they can give him 5 minutes and it won't be a disaster.

Question. From the course profile it looks like they descend to a Mountain Checkpoint, surely there is some kind of a climb in there.

IMO Astana is trying to work Saxo Bank by placing Vino in the break. I think the big boy are going to come out and play today for sure.

Kudos to Hushovd, for me the green jersey competition is like the Intergiro. With points awarded during the mountains, sometimes the best sprinter wins it sometimes the most consistent sprinter gets it. Anyways Hushovd is a great rider I hope all his effort pays off.

Everyone is playing on even footing for these competitions. They all know the rules.

I was annoyed at Hushovd winning last year... not because of his points on breaks, but rather the Cav relegation that affected the result... when his actions didn't affect the outcome of the stage in my opinion.

Hunting the jersey the way Hushovd does is refreshing.

Agreed on Thor, just slightly disappointing Lampre got a rider in there to steal some points from him, however all said and done Thor is in Green tomorrow.

Agreed, there is a reason it is for the most consistent rider rather than the best sprinter. If you want a pure sprinter, not one capable of going into a break to win it then don't have intermediate sprint points.

On the other side, would love to see Cav in a break trying to get points for the Green Jersey.
