Sanchez to win.

Hopefully Contador will also carry on gambling to allow Menchov and Sanchez within 30 seconds of him and 1 minute of Schlecklet. I'd laugh so hard if they then kicked AS off the podium entirely in the TT.

That's exactly what I think AC was doing when they slowed on the climb yesterday - 'either do some work or risk coming in fourth'.

That would be hilarious, esp if he comes in 4th by less than 13 seconds.

As i said before, i think Schlecks policy should be win or nothing. Try to go for 1st and if he ends up 4th in the proccess, so be it.

If he does this and ends up 4th, it will be a defeat achieved with a certain glory in it and i will applaude him for it.

I would really like to see Samu overtake Schleck.

Talking about italian nicknames, cunego is the little prince and pelizoti the dolphin.
The italian for this is il principe and el delfino.

What confuses me a bit though is that the french for prince is dauphin, and i have heard people before use the italian word delfino on this basis to call someone a prince or a successor.

So isnt Pelizoti also the prince.

I think AC is approaching the race with the same philosophy. I think Bill Parcells (American Football coach/legend) said there is winning and their is misery.

Not only a stage win, but at least Menchov, or Rabobank is looking whether they can dislodge Andy from the second spot, perhaps by taking some time now and try to overtake him during the time trial. I think Menchov/Rabo would be really helpfull, would Contador ask such a thing and especially if they would get a stage win in return as well

i thought about the rabo-astana plot too. it's logical but seems less fitting this stage. for one, samu is a super descender and can guide berto beter, secondly he is spanish (well bask but you get my drift). thirdly, having menchov-gesink double card, i'd think rabo would less inclined to seek alliances on this stage as they may want explore their own plan.

But AC is in a different situation. He isnt going to lose minutes, but instead gain them in the tt so he doesnt really have to worry about getting below 2nd. Its Schleck who should be worried about Sammy and Dennis and cant afford to let them get more time.

Samu is asturian. Which doesnt have the same, er problems with calling itself spain.

Apparently Schlecklet was caught behind a split but Saxo have pulled it back together. Petacchi and Thor tried to get into a break but were pulled back.

Edit: 1st sprint in about 13km.

good on ale jet for trying to get into the break. Cav may be the best sprinter, but i think he should try it once. A stage like this is a good time to try it as he isnt going to be competing later on in the day anyway, unless he is really worried about finishing outside the time limit.

Oh you mean solely for this stage, I was more looking to the rest of the mountainous stages. But I think Rabo would well be in favour of a alliance, as probably Gesink woon't be able to gain any more places and would already do well to remain in the same place

Gesink took time on VDB2 on the only monster climb with a real war between the favourites, the Madeleine, so why not today or on the Tourmalet? VDB2 is in front because of the cobbles stage, not because of his climbing.

The last segment on Versus was just embarrassing for all of the parties involved. A big part of it was them trying to project where Lance WOULD have finished but for his bad luck. And of course, to a man, the prediction was the podium. And then they deepened their embarrassment by talking up the Team GC race, and call it one of the most prestigious awards at the race. But you could tell even Bob Roll wasn't buying it (he lacked his all things Lance are great attitude).

Not saying they are adopting similar approaches, just similar philosophies to the outcome.
