You don't beat the yellow with a mechanical. Especially when the yellow is kicking your *** on the road prior to it happening. Contador showed what class he really is.

dropping your chain is generally your own damn fault

STAGE 2 IDIOTS!

BS. No one had to wait on stage 2. They just did...Their bad. It is completely something else to attack a guy who is smoking you when he has a mechanical.

Pathetic move by Contadoosh!

I love how everyone forgets that Contador lost time in stage 2 as well, it's not like only AS fell about 70 ppl did, but I guess that doesn't fit in the storyline of "nobody waited when X fell on his own".

Contador can attack the yellow having a mechanical, but it doesn't show that he is the strongest rider on the road.

I think folks need to see the replay. Vino had responded, AC had blasted out of the group and was closing the gap to Andy and then Andy came to virtual standstill. AC swerved around his left... and then i lost my feed.

Ah well, here's hoping AS will have the form he had today in the stage to the Tourmalet, if he's as great as he seemed to be today he could take some serious time out of AC on that monster stage.

With Andy's lack of skill on the bike, he needs to be careful.

I am not sure how I feel about Contador pushing the pace. He was closing when Andy broke, and he was not alone. It isn't like SS or Menchov are waiting, and nobody is whining about them. I am sure we will hear endless commentary in the coming days. I also think we will see a very motivated Schleck in the coming days. I think he is stronger than Contador on the climbs, and if he is still in yellow by the TT, I think he may put in the ride of his life.

And can someone explain to me why was it ok for Andy to exploit the carnage of Frank's crash, and this is somehow unpalatable? I mean his advantage over AC only comes from that particular stage.

The convention on the cobbles is not to wait. That's why cobbled stages should not be in the tour.

But if there is a mountain stage like this and you see someone's chain has fallen off, you don't go straight to the front and attack.

Who cares that AC went? AS wouldn't have waited for him in the same situation reversed. It's called bad luck

If Conta had the yellow, of course Andy would have waited. It's Le Tour de France!

Just saw Andy's chain trouble in repeat. Contador was nowhere to be seen at the time. Just Andy and Vino.

Tbh if I was Riis at this point I would tell AS to lose the yellow by 1/2 seconds, he'd be better off going into Tourmalet 2 seconds behind then 5 seconds ahead (which he would be atm).

it shows how desperate Contador is...............
he will lose a lot of respect within the Peloton.....just wait for the post stage reactions.
Riis will probably throw some verbal punches!

part of riding uphill is on making bad shifts, mistakes, etc that cause mechanicals... watch how many time an amateur kicks their chain on a climb like this...

Don't see Menchov and Sanchez sitting up, either. Contador was responding to Schleck's attack.
In order to sit up, all 3 would have to agree.
Otherwise, Contador would be giving time to the 2 men directly behind him in the GC.

A difficult race situation, he may regret, later.

Let's hope it all comes back together.

AC cannot give any leeway to AS when Menchov and Samu are taking off as well tho. You can't afford to drop 30 or 40 more to those guys.
