I am officially getting off the Bradley Wiggins Grand Tour Hype Train. I hoped he would come to the Tour de France this year with better climbing legs and more confidence, but he's been pretty feeble. He should bulk up a bit, get some of his horsepower back, and focus on winning TT's and maybe trying to improve on his 20th in Paris-Roubaix a couple of years back.

As far as Grand Tours go, I think it's time all us British fans started shifting our unreasonable weights of expectation over to Peter Kennaugh. White jersey in 2011? You heard it here first.

I like that attitude!!

I have to say, I like how exhausted everyone clearly was at the end of the stage. Heads dropping, bikes swaying right after the finish line, riders sitting with their heads in their hands... not 100% certain it's a sign of a clean tour, but it's definitely a sign of a well-raced tour.

LA came in almost smiling imo, and was probably able to easily follow the gesink group up the madeleine...

Got some juice on the rest day?

Yep, Wiggins should try and be a poor man's Cancellara, rather than a poor man's Van de Velde.

Can Peter Kennaugh stop using stabilisers before we destoy him with false expectation please? ;)

the pics of cadel though. wow he looked seriously ****ed up. i don't think this has anything to do with crashing - whatever he says, rather not recovering from a hectic early season and riding too hard too early in this tour

@CadelOfficial: "I was really paying for the consequences of my crash (on Stage 8). I'm so sorry to let (people) down."

But it was just the crash...? Come on, there are riders who ride on with broken arms.

Nice job of work Lance did for Levi.
I think Buffalo did more work for Alberto than LA did for LL.
Max Testa said that Lance's charisma would help Levi to the podium. After the way they were assembled, proclaiming themselves the Dream Team, & having people still claim this morning they're the strongest team in the race, I enjoy their big daily dose of reality.

Good old British defeatism, huh?

It's his first year as a proper team leader, he should at least give it another go next year. Or target one of the other grand tours. You don't give up GC after one bad showing!

It wasn't so dumb of LA to stay in the basso group imo... They were only 30 sec back most of the time so LA could assist LL easily if he dropped that group.

LA probably thought the tempo would settle down after some attacks...

i have had enough of british TT specialists. i'd rather brad ride hard for a top 10 and have something to look at in teh mountain stages than have another glut of prologue specialists.

I'd agree with you, except that we didn't have **** all to look at today because Wiggo got dropped before the race even got going.

He's never going to win a Grand Tour, and in fact I'll go on record right now and say that his 4th last year is almost certainly the best GT result he will ever get. He might have a shot at a race like Paris-Nice where the climbs are shorter and less steep, I suppose.

lots of mountains in luxembourg and belgium

Well it is not far for them to head to the Alps, or the like. I suppose the Brits could do it from a young age create an u17 High Performance road cycling station in the Alps...
