Just go ahead and ask the next question. Then you can make it more recent ;)

I was joking mate. It was my way of 'shoe polishing' (does this even exist in english?) and telling how awesome you people are for knowing all this.

What was the stage and year where Eddy M passed out and was eventually defeated by Bernard Thevenet.

EDIT: I don't think he passed out in that same year but the finish was the same.

Both Galibier and Aubisque have featured more often.

When i was looking at stage 16 last year, this was the list I found

1 Col du Tourmalet 77
2 Col d'Aubisque 71
3 Col d'Aspin 70
4 Col de Peyresourd 61

Here's one : a) a now abandoned stage format and b) the year of one that remains (in)famous for c) "bad" reasons. Hint : it involves a racer still visible on the TDF.

The Badger (on his 1978 Tour debut) leading the protest on the day of the split stage (12A and B)...

Nice !

Actually he didn't really lead the protest, he was more or less appointed as the speaker (not much speaking though looking at the vid) and then resented being portrayed as the leader. The riders were complaining because they'd had to wake up too early (4.30 AM apparently) :

Here's some pretty cool archival footage : http://www.ina.fr/video/I00009078

Weird stage format, eh...guess they were trying to optimize the contributions of the towns where they stopped.

That's ace.

My Q: Who's the last TDF-winner to stand on the top step of the podium in Paris after riding a Campagnolo-equipped bike?

Landis? He standed on the podium after all :p If he doesn't count the answer is Pereiro

One of the first things I remembered of the Tour de France and still one of the most epic things I can think of. Why was Tom Steels disqualified after the 6th stage in the Tour of 1997? (involving which other rider?)
