I feel like they should have chosen someone like De la Cruz instead of Dunbar. At least they would have someone that gives guarantees of fighting for a good GC spot and is also an acomplished stage hunter.

At such short notice, there is no time for a rider to get in form. De La Cruz rode some races recently, but has not done anything at all notable in any of them since March. He has a clearly established decent GC level and high stage hunting level that most of the kids in the squad haven’t yet shown, but he won’t even have been considered if he has little form. He’s not on the ToC roster either.

They could have picked Poels, he finished top 10 in lbl. I guess they want to keep him as a climbing domestique for the Tour.

What will be most interesting as the young pups are unleashed is which of the four (TGH, Sivakov, Sosa Dunbar) are placed after the first week. Day 1 includes a tough partially steep uphill ITT which may leave Sosa exposed and trailing his three team mates by 1.30 mins (Dunbar) and 2 mins (TGH and Sinakov).

The next seven stages seem to favour a rouleur type rider of which it seems Dunbar may be the most proficient and Sosa the least. So by the end of first week the sky placings could look like; Dunbar, Sivakov and TGH all clustered very close and Sosa some minutes off. At this point and depending how highly placed he is, it would seem to make sense to designated the oldest and most experienced, TGH, as the GC man and considering the climbing talents of both Sivakov and Dunbar to support him Team Inoes give Sosa a free role as the guy is pure mountain goat.

Provide that protection and support to include the mountain stages of 13 and 14. If TGH is still well placed then continue on, if not, let the whole pack of pups loose and watch the fun ensue!

How exactly would the best climber (Sosa) lose two minutes (!?!) on an 8 km, very hilly prologue?

If anyone can do it Sosa could! His ITT results as absolutely dreadful, whether its flat or hilly he manages to loses minutes in any TT he undertakes, his excels in long climbs and is most likely the best of the four I mention.

Perfect scenario for Sosa to chase the mountains jersey then.

I think they should just try to keep Hart, Sivakov and Sosa up on GC and then see what happens. They don't need to have them ride for each other, because it will not be up to them to take responsibility in the race, they can just follow.

So the young guns have been performing really well. Sivakov looking like a top 10 over all. And Dubar having a brilliant debut grand tour. He Has been working for Sivakov and has actually looked stronger in some stages. I think he would be right up there with Sivakov if he hadn't have waited for Hart on 2 occasions. This kid could be the real deal out of all the young guns.

The remarkable thing about Sky/Ineos is their talent scouting. To find both Bernal and Sivakov is pretty impressive. Then throw in Dunbar who looked strong as hell at points this year. I think that Hart may have found his ceiling as a superdom or one-week contender, however -- not that there's anything wrong with that...

They just buy from Gianni Savio and teams like his
Or they offer more money to riders at Movisar or a Basque team
They do alot very well but scouting does not stand out

Its not bloody hard to find Bernal and Sivakov. Everyone knows them, they are the biggest talents in cycling.

They've supposedly been following Sivakov for quite some time though. He comes from the same area as Nicolas Portal, and I think rode for the same junior team as a boy.

Any news about Bernal, will he race a shorter stage race before the Tour?

Dauphine or TdS
Thanks, it will be interesting to see if he outperforms Froome or Thomas in those races.
I think Bernal and Froome will do Dauphine and Thomas TDS.
