I usually don't like to speculate about riders doping but it was kinda weird and unreal.
Wiggins too.

Dr.Sahl said:It seems like they had a very good day (if you give them the doubt)
I am pretty much in shock. I didnt expect Sky to dominate and Froome etc beating other great MR..... I got alittle flashback to US postal times today...
Lets hope they just had a good day and that it will be even more open tomorrow with long attacks on all MT.

Ferminal said:So what are Sky doing different in their preparation which makes them vastly superior to their rivals? It's a bit like OPQS in the classics.
Gloin22 said:Did you watch Vuelta 2011 and all of this season btw ? For example.
Algarve. Parsi Nice. Romandie. Dauphine.
None of the caliber of Tour but seeing them like that was NOT unexpected.
Many people expected that before Tour, the UK postal train![]()
And here was me giving up all hopes of a lucid argument appearing in this thread. Posting daft photos is just so much easier.Kwibus said:So how surprising is this? The riders that managed to stick with Froome and Wiggins were Evans and Nibali. Despite last year Evans has never been the BEST climber in the bunch. Nibali has always been fragile on the climbs. Ofcourse he has really good days.
Who are next? Taaramae. ZUBELDIA?!?.. Rolland.. ok big talent. Brajkovic, well he has never been a king in the mountains. Monfort...
What's this? The competition just seems to be rubbish?
My doubts come from riders like Rogers. Last few years he was always someone to get dropped fast in the climbs. Last time he did well in the mountains was during a certain era...
(I posted this an hour ago, but the forum went 404 for me)
Dimspace who runs http://www.teamskyfans.com made a handy factsheet on their team doc Jose Ibarguren, maybe he'll make a similar one on Geert Leinders. Or maybe not, heh.Ferminal said:So what are Sky doing different in their preparation which makes them vastly superior to their rivals? It's a bit like OPQS in the classics.
The Hitch said:Its not that they are doing it. Its that they are doing it in the name of clean cycling that hurts me most.

Turn it round and ask, who in this field should have been beating Wiggins, Nibali & Taaramae? J VdB probably, but he was scuppered by a crash/mechanical. Other top climbers are already out of GC contention so wouldn't be going full tilt.
Libertine Seguros said:LA-MSS, a Portuguese team who went ballistic in short stage races in 2008. There were two consecutive races (the Vuelta a Asturias and the GP PAD) where they locked out the podium; at Asturias they had 5 guys of their 7 finishers in the top 12, and on one stage they hammered the pace on a cat.2 climb and broke it down to 4 LA-MSS riders and Stefano Garzelli and put a minute into the field.
A few weeks later, in a Portuguese one-day race, promising young rider Bruno Neves had a heart attack and died on the bike. The police swooped on the team to find mucho doping going on, some without riders' knowledge some with if I remember correctly. Half the team were banned.

Wiggins being up there isn't surprising or shocking or suspicious.Fergoose said:And here was me giving up all hopes of a lucid argument appearing in this thread. Posting daft photos is just so much easier.
