I found it a shocking revelation that team sky would bring a mechanic for their Jaguars in the Tour!

This tells me they don't trust their cars reliability.
The car is British.

If the Brits can't even make a car that doesn't need refills of motor oil several times during a three week tour, how can we trust them to create clean cyclists?

Maybe just out of forgetfulness rather than malice. A bit like when he implied Sastre was charging by only singling out Evans when talking of Tour winners without a stigma attached.

Got to say though, forgetting the 2009 Tour would be pretty monumentally forgetful for a rider who had his breakthrough there. If a fan forgot about the 2009 Tour I'd congratulate them and ask them how they did it. I've been trying to forget it since 2009.

From above meaning from team management.

If Alex Dowsett's retraction has been directed by team management, is it a case of omerta?

No! Omerta would stop stupid young thickos like AD from mouthing off in the first place.....now, second time around, he's just come out with corporate speak.

But we can't have it all ways: either we encourage riders to talk or we don't...jumping down their throats when they say 'sometin' stupid' is just encouraging the sort of siege mentality that allowed Lance & co to flourish. Sky should be congratulated on their response: Wiggo on the money like a good politician in touch with public opinion (majority, not clinic)

I read on twitter that he said that - but assumed it was just a misinterpretation of what he actually said.
That really is quite stunning. (maybe he is stoned)

Sounds like he was thinking of Lance's Reign 1999-2005 when he answered the question.

Probably a brain fart. Or it's proof he's doping.

Wait what?

Dowsett says what he really feels then changes it completely. How is that encouraging riders to talk?

Good grief.

Omerta in the context of pro cycling doesn't stop you from talking - it stops you from telling the truth about the doping.

Whilst being British and having my favourite current rider in the team (Eisel) - I'm not a TeamSky fan, there is something far too US Postal about them,

Also what Kimmage highlighted also, I'm thinking maybe........

Maybe Fran the PR girl sent the wrong notes to the wrong riders :D

I'm not sure at all what to make of this. But no way does Wiggins forget 2009. 1st, it was there (Verbiere sp) he realised he could put in an attack and got Armstrong in trouble and 2nd he got worked over big style by F Schleck and Armstrong in a stage and 3rd he sucked up behind them all the way up that small climb called Ventoux.

Regardless I commend what Wiggins said.

There's a lot of fence sitters on this issue and needed the people's champion to explain it.

Yes he's an *** for stuff his said in the past but at least this pushes the fence sitters to the right side of the fence.

I think you need to go easy on him here.

The second one was pure fluke. Lance realised after the Avoriaz stage that he wasnt going to win and began a programme of shedding as much time as he could do get a breakaway later.

Wiggins, who had limited his losses to just 1 rather than 10 there, managed a lot longer before reaching that decision and deciding to save himself for the tt, at least until the Mende stage - 12 if not even after that.

But then lance, who was quite a long way off, jumped many places due to his breakaway on stage 16 where the peloton let him have almost 10 minutes. Wiggins meanwhile took it easier and fell places until coincidence brought them together for 23rd and 24th in Paris.

Had the wind blown another way they could have ended up 15th and 40th.

What I do wonder about in the 2010 Tdf is that if clean wiggo was losing to all these dopers - i mean vino was beating him for 1, so was Basso, and Contador (2007 speech), why wasnt he complaining about it like he did in 2007.

This is why riders don't say anything. Even if they support USADA's case and denounce Armstrong and say everything that people wanted them to people still have to find some fault in it because they referred to Armstrong's Tour winning years and not the comeback years. As though it's important.

David Moncoutie got it right. 16 years a pro and not one single word about doping. Ever. And he's an untouchable.

Learn the lesson riders. Only speak if you can say what everyone wants to hear simultaneously and absolutely don't leave any minor errors.

And where’s the Michael Rogers thread?

Yup been wondering the same.
Levi's testimony names him as present with Levi, LA, Vino, Kashechkin at Dr Ferrari's 'training' camps in Tenerife.

And Rogers all of a sudden has a reversal of form and is now a super hill climbing domestique....?

But if Wiggins doesnt realize he rode with Lance in the 09 TDF, he only needs to look at his own book cover
