When Paul Gambaccini was talking about Jimmy Savile last week he said that you can't paint him as just being good due to his charity work or bad due the allegations against him, he is both.

Personally I think the same applies to Armstrong and people trying to completely ignore one aspect of what he has done (on either side) are misguided, that said I wouldn't have used the word legend and if I was a pro cyclist I would make sure I was very careful in what I did say.

Jimmy Saville was a monster much worse than Lance Armstrong.

Wiggins called the evidence "Irrefutable" on Sky News he also said he was "shocked" at the scale of the evidence.

And yet the only shock is that several people swore affidavits. There is little if anything new in there.

I agree, I wasn't trying to compare what they have done just that oversimplifying how you look at them isn't the best way to analyse things, mind you that was said about Savile a week ago I guess things have moved on even from then

I would normally agree with that ie, you can be both, but...

Problem with Armstrong is he has used his 'charity' as another revenue stream.

The whole Comeback was meant to be about cancer, his return was "on the house" - yet he was pocketing large appearance fee's and going around in Livestrong gear that he had equity in.

Or maybe he is "shocked" that so many people spoke out against Armstrong.

yeah you can seen an enemy behind every tree if you want to  my god. if wiggins say nothing it's supicious, if he says the evidence is shockign he's supicious and if he would've said the evidense means nothing he would've been suspicious  get real. I hate wiggins more than the next person but there are zero points to him doping.

I didn't say that it's a sign of Wiggins doping. Potentially more of a surprise that teammates told so much about each other.

Don't think that has ever happened before.

Was wiggins actually on sky news or was it just a statement like politicians do?

All i could find was this. http://www.itv.com/news/update/2012...d-at-the-scale-of-evidence-against-armstrong/

Considering you think that Rujano has never doped and that Savio is the cleanest ds in the peloton, im going to take your declerations about who or isnt clean, with a pinch of salt.

I think this is evidence of the game changer, and shouldn't be ignored by sky haters or fan boys.

What it indicates is that you always thought your team mates would stand by you at best or say nothing at worst. But USADA v LA shows that, sooner or later, "your sins will find you out". 11 teammates against the old leader of the pack. There is no hiding place anymore!! This is good news, and may further change behaviour in the peleton/teams

To be fair to Wiggins, even when he was reported as loving Lance I seem to remember it being part of a longer article (think it was in a Wiggins book?) where he acknowledged that LA "divided opinion" and wasn't everyone's cup of tea.

Still wasn't great but IIRC it was slightly more balanced than just "Lance is great I won't hear any different."

Wiggins told SSN the evidence was "Damning & overwhelming" and that he wants to "pick up the pieces" he completely forgot about the 2009 TdF as well. Calls answering doping questions "frustrating" and that he "wants to move forward".

He loves him. He's had his heart broken!

''We've got the makings of an incredible team with Richie Porte, Michael Rogers and Chris Froome" he said. "This is by far the best team we've had on paper. All of a sudden we've got one of the strongest teams in cycling. It's like the old Postal days. I have visions of five or six guys ahead of me in the mountains and Cav out the back! But he'll have green so it won't matter".

Bradley Wiggins, Cycling Weekly, 26th January.

"I love him," Wiggins said. "I think he's great. He's transformed the sport in so many ways. Every person in cycling has benefitted from Lance Armstrong, perhaps not financially but in some sense. Even his strongest critics have benefitted from him. I don't think this sport will ever realise what he's brought it or how big he's made it

lol.

Sky : "Do you see it as irrefutable evidence"

Wiggins: "ya, i think it is"

Sky "Wiggins calls it "irrefutable evidence".

The thing seemed the whole way through like something bailsford and sky agreed was good pr yesterday. Wiggins did not even use the f word. He talked almost exactly like Bailsford the whole way through. He said the evidence was damning but did not go after Lance (the person) at any point.

He even did a plug for sky too saying "when i was watching the ticker updates on sky news yesterday..."

2009 Tour is a bit difficult to explain convincingly, so it's easier to pretend that it never happened

Im not the hog. Though perhaps i should clarify that it was 1 of their "expert" employees they brought on to talk about it and not the entire station.

These are the Wiggins quotes from Sky Sports News:

"I'm certainly not surprised by it."

[Were you expecting the amount of evidence against LA] "I wasn't really expecting anything.

"It is what it is. It stacks up pretty highly really, it's pretty damning. There's a lot of it and I think the evidence is now overwhelming.

"In a way this brings an end to the investigation which has been going on for quite a few years. Maybe now, as a sport, we can to move forward."

[Do you feel any sympathy with LA] "Not really, no. I don't really think of it in those terms.

"My main concern is now I'm standing here as the winner of the Tour de France having to now pick to the pieces for other people misdemeanours.

"For me it's about looking forward now and not looking back 10, 15 years ago."

Q: What do Jimmy Saville and Margaret Thatcher have in common?

A; They both shafted minors during the 1980s

OK I agree, but that's looking for a considered response from the team management. You can't get that from individual riders in the middle of the Tour of Beijing

So Alex has time to read the Interwebs and comment about this, but Brailsford doesn't have time to shoot a quick email out to the team saying, oh I dunno... STFU and let the mgt handle it?

David Millar's sister Fran is the PR officer.

Team Sky are the single most technologically advanced cycling team in the history of the universe [sic].

And yet... they can't get a message to their riders. Huh.

Maybe Brailsford is so far away from his team - not unlike the other team clean manager, JV - that he doesn't actually have a clue what's going on with any of them.

No doubt he will continue to "investigate thoroughly to get the facts" before continuing on doing what they've always done.

This Dowsett response is classic "Talanksy", but JV pulled him up on his attitude and made sure he laid low coz hero worship of Lance was currently a no-no. Let's see how Brailsford handles it. New generation are as good as the old generation - and these are the future "stars" of our pro peloton.
