To be fair, that's not all he said:

Make of that what you will.

Much better, but it's also possible that he was on a receiving end of a dope slap from somebody higher up.

What I make of it is that the Team PR person told him what the correct team message is. This isn't 2010 when it is ok to accuse Landis and Hamilton of being alcoholic losers. The correct message is now: 'Lance bad (apart from cancer charity), cycling clean now. Don't mention Leinders, Yates, Possoni, Julich...'

It's gone from throw Landis and Hamilton under the bus to throw Armstrong and Barry under the bus.

What I make of it is the PR department had a very long and tense day brainstorming a Kansas City Shuffle.

It is further evidence young sports stars (and Warnie) managers should surgically detach their clients twittering phones and keyboards. SW Quade Cooper for further evidence

Great work putting the young guy on the hook. What about the teamleader saying something!

This kid shouldn't be kicked about by Dave Bruynel like this.

If I was Dave I'd be more concerned at employing a blind DS and allowing him to drive a team car ;)

And still people will say we are merciless hounds who take every opportunity to bash Sky.

Anyways, Sky will survive the MB, MR, GL hooplah, but the role of Geert "Chamoiscream" Leinders is still unclear.

The more we learn the less plausible the saddle sore shtick is... and it was already unbelievable from day one.

Add to that a manager who established himself as a blatant liar.

I can't believe that Brailsford is so shocked.

I am only an amateur who has watched Armstrongs bullying of Simeoni etc and I was convinced that he was a bullying cheat.

Brailsford, having been employed in cycling for so many years and to be this shocked shows an astronomical level of incompetence....................or something slightly more dubious.

It seems as if Dowsett was reffering to something else, he can not be castigated for something others took out of context.

Ya - I think Sky will ground him for a week, take his phone and PlayStation away until he gets on message.

Oh my oh my... seems Leinders isn't the nobody some people here are maintaining.

Seems (as I pointed out before) the management team did know everything. And dang... coincidentally Leinders was part of that same management. So we have the whereabouts fraud and now we have this.

Geert "Chamoiscream" Leinders, ace doping doctor in a multiple GT winning team and saddle sore nurse of Sky.

Um, he might be. He isn't mentioned once in that article

Yep, indeed.

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to set the record straight as some things have not been clear in my comments reported in the press today. When I was quoted saying Lance Armstrong is a legend, this was in regard to the charity work he has done, also when I said it doesn't matter, what I mean is that we are racing clean now and it is a different sport to what it was back then.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, I was just about to start Stage 3 of the Tour of Beijing and I wasn't clear in my thoughts.
I do think what Lance has done is completely unacceptable.

Hope you're all well
Alex

It doesn't matter if he was referring to something else. The bolded below is the issue.

This kid doesn't get that those charities are a direct result of his cheating.

Pleas, explain this

" I think he is a legend of the sport"

"when I was quoted saying Lance Armstrong is a legend, I meant this in regard to the charity work he has done".

No that is not the issue

For the moment the moral phylosophical links between Lance and livestrong are a total none issue and not something that morons like Dowsett would understand, espcially not in the 140 character format they live by.

The issue is that he is is clearly lying "ugh i meant something else".

When Paul Gambaccini was talking about Jimmy Savile last week he said that you can't paint him as just being good due to his charity work or bad due the allegations against him, he is both.

Personally I think the same applies to Armstrong and people trying to completely ignore one aspect of what he has done (on either side) are misguided, that said I wouldn't have used the word legend and if I was a pro cyclist I would make sure I was very careful in what I did say.

He said the evidence against Armstrong was irrefutable, didn't see the interview but they just mentioned that on the headlines!

Normally one of the members of the management team is seen as part of "the management".

If within the Rabobank team were people who knew everything, it was the management of the team.

They knew also what was used and by whom.

So *dumdumdumdum* Leinders knew what was used and by whom.

Now want to discuss if the doctor on the management team (who all knew what was used and by whom) was there for laughs? His good looks? His suave tie?

Or is the Head doctor on the medical team there for medical and training reasons?

It's truly amazing how much evidence must be posted before people take of their goggles.
