With Mas I get the impression that he's a bit like Steven Kruijswijk, much better in gts than in shorter stage races with his recovery being his biggest strength.
I'm getting that impression as well with him. While Soler, even with his major inconsistency appears better suited to 1 week stage races. It'll be interesting to see what type of racing Jorgenson ends up being best suited to. Although he wants to be a Valverde type rider, and it appears the team is going to let him try.
Wait. Why are people saying Jorgenson isn't going to Coppi e Bartali? He's listed on the Start List on the team website.

Sorry. I'd like to know that as well, since he obviously said he's going and Movistar hasn't exactly made a list for the race yet, just said two riders who are going to it.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this convo. I thought you did, when you highlighted his name and commented "Turns out; he's not even going." Then multiple responses about Movistar's supposedly unclear rider-race schedule.
That was referring to MSR.
Just noticed that the original post was in fact about Coppi e Bartali... my bad; I can see why you got confused.
I have no idea at all what they were trying to do. Made no sense at all. Valverde's sprint isn't what it was and he's admitted to his motivation being almost non existent at this point. Mas can't sprint and (without the mechanical) Soler isn't likely to be winning any partial field sprints either. Their sprinters are racing the cobbles right now and the only other person with a bit of a sprint is Jorgenson who is racing in Italy this week.
Hmm... in the defense of Movistar, they tried to make the race hard in the crucial part, forcing the climb and the descent, where the group can easily snap. They had two things in mind: first, thinning the front group and hopefully leaving some gc candidates behind, and second, trying for the stage, either with Soler's late attack, or Valverde's sprint (which by the way wasn't bad at all today).
Agreed, but as soon as Movistar do anything these days, it's always stupid in the eyes of most posters. They can't really do anything right, it seems like.
I think the forum is generally a bit to critical to teams which try to change the race dynamics to their favour and fail to capitalise on it compared to teams which do nothing, though doing nothing makes them lose by default. Making the race hard did not make Movistar to the number one favourite for the stage, but it gave them at least a chance to compete. On could argue of course if it would have been better to save the energy for the coming stages. But I do not think it will make a difference.
A bit like INEOS at MSR, they did ok until Pidcock decided to get lost on his way down the Poggio.

We make fun of Movistar because of past errors and we laugh about it because that's what we do.
Having said that, and as Cannavaro pointed out, we should praise Movistar for making the race harder and fun. If not them, who. Froome would have arrived in the main group probably. And others. It was like making fun of Landa and his team during the stage that ended in Col de la Loze in 2020 Tour. At least they are trying. And they are making the race hard in the process. That's what we want anyway.

For anyone interested Carlos Verona writes a short "blog" on facebook for stages/races he participates in. One thing he said about today's stage was that for most of the team the ITT was basically a rest and recovery day and only their three GC riders had a busy, hard day. He also expects all the stages to be like yesterday's stage.
Their best rider was barely 1s/km faster than Kuss. Looks like also their GC riders were on a rest day.
Let's see Enric Mas' form was really bad last time he raced. Valverde's form has been off for over a year and Marc Soler literally has said he's building form for the Giro currently. By the way, we know very well how bad of an ITT Valverde can do when he decides not to bother with it and it's bad. Also Valverde's TT hasn't been that good in general since his injury in 2017 and it's not exactly helping that he doesn't even ride his TT bike when he's training unless the team is either doing fitting or doing TTT training.
Kuss lost 4 seconds to Mas, 9 seconds to Valverde, and 16 seconds to Soler. Also Valverde as one of the last starters had to deal with a shifted wind direction that likely hurt his time and the others who started near the end. Oh by the way, Castroviejo and Van Garderen are good time trialist who barely put 10 total seconds into Marc Soler.
So next time please come up with something real to be critial of. Because by YOUR thoughts Quintana had to have take the day off as he was worse than Kuss. Of course Kuss could just be a decent TTer who MIGHT actually be one of the team's GC options for this race as well.
Valverde's left leg worth more than that two together, even now in his 40's. Superman could be a leader though...
