My first suspicion was when Van Hooydonck was climbing way over his level in his first Jumbo year, he was known as a good time trialist but couldn’t handle a small bridge. Then Laporte went on Wout’s level in the classics and is now (as being a half sprinter for Cofidis) climbing over 1 category climbs with ease.

Van Baarle with a big engine also climbing impressive. Benoot was with the top 7-8 last mountain stage. Kuss being Kuss but consistent. And Wout outperforming climbers yesterday again.

And then yesterday happened.

Tbf, I don't this is out of the world for Kuss, Benoot, Kelderman or Van Baarle. Kuss is doing his normal work really, Benoot used to be a GC guy (at Sunweb/DSM/Lotto Soudal) so him being able to climb as a domestique isn't unexpected tbf, Kelderman is probably underperforming and Van Baarle used to pull out very similar performances at Ineos in the last few years. Laporte and Van Hooydonck are climbing better than usual, and well Wout and Vingegaard deserve some questions on this and other performances anyway

I haven't heard anything about it lately, its all microdosing and motors.

Armstrong didnt get caught once, right? But that could also be because of corruption.

Landis apparently got caught, because of a "dirty" bag. Whatever that means. Sounds like a sloppy mistake. Or he was just too blatant and they put and end to that quick. He didnt have the same power.

How many more riders from the 90s and 00s have come out and confessed long after their career? They never got caught either most of them.

With money, organization and just being smart about it... it is probably very hard to catch it. Unless someone talks or tell you how they are working. What the set up is.

They are good riders in their own right... and with a little bit of enhancement, probably just makes them even better.

Whenever they sign someone it is also "we liked his numbers/test results". Very rarely they specify what the numbers/test results is, of course. It is probably not just the watts they are looking for is my guess.

Almost no-one has been caught for blood doping. Just look at Fuentes' clients in 2006, most of them had never been tested positive.

Also Landis was tested positive for Testosterone, not for blood doping.

And that should be pretty telling, right?

Thats why there are still all these former riders and DS:s in the big teams from the 90s and 00s. Same old tricks.

They stopped for a while after Armstrong got caught. Maybe tried other things (Sky). Then they went back to it.

He still managed to put 1.11 into Van Aert in the first 16k of mostly flat/downhill with a small climb, despite riding on the same paintless setup, with WVA being a former CX world champion ergo expert descender who has 9 high level tt wins and is about 15kg heavier.

Those 15kg should have really helped on that small climb. Also 15kg heavier Van Aert held pace with most of the GC men on the climb. Also, the first 15km are perhaps comparable to the 2nd Tour de Suisse ITT, where Van Aert got beaten by Skjelmose and Ayuso.

It is almost like pacing strategies are a thing.

Jonas' tt bike was not only unpainted, but they also didn't use resin on the carbon fibre to save weight. Just a few pieces of tape held it all together
