Some interesting statements form the ITF pressor about the independent review into match fixing.

"While the [BBC] program did not reveal anything new, it was widely written about and has caused damage to our sport. It is vital we repair this damage"
"It is unprecedented that all 7 stakeholders of tennis have come together so quickly with one purpose, and that's with the sole aim to restore public confidence."
Audio in the first part of NCR podcast http://nochallengesremaining.podbean.com/

The tone suggests that it's the protection of reputation (rather than integrity) that's motivating this. There were no similar endeavors when Korda and the Argentinians were testing positive for doping while at the top of the game. There was no similar reaction when Odesnik, Cilic and Troicki were getting popped and people were suggesting the ITF weren't running a "best-in-show" anti-doping operation.

Tennis authorities haven't reacted by admitting that there's a problem, which is an error, IMO, because savvy people know there is one. They certainly haven't issued statements with a sense of "mea culpa, we need to step up our game, but it's tough", which might garner more sympathy. Instead, defensive as per usual. Very reminiscent of the IAAF.

And FIFA. And the cricketing authorities. And rugby. And the cycling authorities post-Festina till the mid 2000s, until it became too big to wish away.

I'm not defending the IAAF for a second, but if "head in the sand defensiveness" is the crime, every sports admin body globally is guilty, either on fixing, PEDs or both.

Dark day for tennis yesterday. Both Serena and Novak were in full mutant mode. The silence from the tennis media and commentators is deafening.

I would love to see one of the former players step up and call these players out the way Lemond did with Armstrong. Someone needs to start the discussion.

Was referring to his age. Years ago the talk was about whether Federer would maybe play till 2012.

Its 2016. He's still at it and destroying top players. Going to turn 35 later this year.

At which point he qualifies to play on the ITF veterans circuit in the 35+ age group.

The Ken Rosewall of the 21st century, but will he still be making grand slam finals at 39 like Rosewall did?

Last night, the GOAT threw everything bar the kitchen sink at Djokovic and got totally blown away in 4. Federer had dropped 1 set in 5 matches until then. The difference in skill and placement was obvious but nobody, with the possible exception of Murray can counter Djokovic's power ATM.

There were several moments where Djokovic almost had to physically pick up his jaw off the ground though! The 2006 Federer would still beat him IMO.

You might be right. He's looking very good, one of the most improved players on the circuit.

agreed.
i like how he goes about his business without the fistpumping and chestbeating that characterizes the murray, nadal, djunkyvic, generation.

he's finished at the australian though. :( Murray was always going to have the longer breath. For the record, I was going to post that at the end of the third already!

The Raonic Murray match was played to see who would lose to Djokovic. I don't fancy Murray at all in the final. Not that Raonic would have had a chance, but at least he would have been a new opponent for Djokovic to beat. Does anyone see Murray taking a set? I don't. The first two sets that Djokovic played against Federer in the Semis was some of the most brutal I've ever seen. He was just not gonna miss a ball and certainly wasn't letting Federer dictate. Federer played a pretty poor match, with a lot of UE's, and Djokovic is certainly in his head now. I have no idea how Djokovic has had such a healthy career thus far. He's had some minor issues, but nothing that sidelined him for even a few weeks, to my knowledge. When you consider how brutal his game is, and how much running, sliding, lunging and stretching he does, it's crazy.

Djokovic visited a clinic in Melbourne after his long match with Giles Simon apparently to use an oxygen chamber. Was he loading up on HGH in preparation for the latter stages of the AO? His doping is now becoming so obvious it is just a joke......Will he ever be caught?

The facility is run by Malcolm Hooper, a former chiropractor, who sat in Djokovic’s box in Rod Laver Arena Thursday evening as the world No. 1 beat Roger Federer and earned a spot in Sunday’s Australian Open final, the sixth of his career. Hooper’s clients include people with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries and disabilities, as well as other athletes.

interesting. This could be worth a thread.
I'm reading up on Malcolm Hooper and it seems he was banned and disregistered previously for doping Essendon(?) rugby players.

I have no time to check the details. There's also this, in case anybody wondered about Malcolm's integrity:

If he was in Djunkovic's box, the audacity/insult is unreal.

there is nothing Richard Inngs aint aware of #doublenegative

he is an ex-ITF ex-ATP tennis umpired. Ings is aware. He knows doping, he is a aware, like Bentham's panopticon. cyclops and eyes in the back of his head. which is why he was such a great tennis umpire. Mcewenroe loved him, just loved him.

It is really funny that I had a discussion with one tennis fan today and he's like "Yo there is obviously no doping in the sport, otherwise we would have known" and I showed him the "magic facilities" story, he just didn't care at all, I guess everybody is happy about the siutation.

Essendon is an aussie-rules footbal club. CAS recently dinged 38 players and the club for doping with Thymosin-beta-4.
"The South Melbourne chiropractor previously has said he was assisting the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority with its Essendon inquiries, after the club used his Hypermed clinic in April-July last year.
On his website, Dr Hooper claims his hyperbaric oxygenation therapy can "upregulate" peptides and ensure "that target tissues are fully exposed to the benefits of peptide therapies".
Under "Oxysports" treatments, he promotes use of AOD-9604 - the anti-obesity drug at the centre of the Essendon inquiry - in "settings where bone and soft tissues are compromised"."

AOD-9604 is a banned substance, under the WADA code.
