The 2012 CQ Ranking Manager Game

I chose only 3 Italians. However i am hoping Basso can win the Giro, Pozzato some early races and Moser continues to develop. I should have got Betancur ( but i thought he was going to Liquigas and would have to ride for Basso/ Nibali ) when he is still at Acqua.

I have 11 riders who are doing the TDU. Hopefully i can get the early yellow jersey.

Funny. I have the same 3 Italian riders for the same reasons.
However I think 3 Italians is n't enough. The guys riding the Italian Autumn races will be very handy.
I didn't want to change the team once I submitted it.

Isn't Betancur Colombian?

Wow... I have 12/15 of the most common riders picked. Since I was the first to submit a team, I think I can safely say that everyone copied my excellent picks :p

Least common rider I have is Sergio Pardilla (5 others have him); a bit of a gamble (and the recent addition of Cobo too Movistar also hurts his leadership chances) but he showed me enough good efforts in the Vuelta last year to warrant picking him at ca. 180 points.

Farrar is my big gamble. Not cheap at 950, but i think he can net me at least 350 points in profit, and maybe a hundred or two more, so was worth it.

I also have a couple of picks which are less common that I thought they would be, which I think are money in the bank: Stybar and VDB2 (both about 20 selections each).

Surprised at the amount of Boonen selections. He's cheap I know, but after picking him last year I completely swore him off.

My Team:
BERTAGNOLLI Leonardo
BLYTHE Adam
BOECKMANS Kris
BRESCHEL Matti
DAVIS Allan
DEMARE Arnaud
FARRAR Tyler
FELLINE Fabio
FERNANDEZ DE LARREA Koldo
HENAO MONTOYA Sergio Luis
IGLINSKIY Maxim
KELDERMAN Wilco
KEUKELEIRE Jens
LARSSON Gustav Erik
MARTENS Paul
PARDILLA BELLON Sergio
PINEAU Cédric
PLAZA MOLINA Ruben
PORTE Richie
POZZATO Filippo
RENSHAW Mark
ROCHE Nicolas
ROGERS Michael
RUIJGH Rob
SANCHEZ GIL Luis Leon
SARMIENTO TUNARROSA Cayetano Jose
SILIN Egor
SPILAK Simon
STYBAR Zdenek
VALLS FERRI Rafael
VAN DEN BROECK Jurgen
VANMARCKE Sep
VELITS Peter

I won't win, but I think I might be able to make the top 1/3rd this year, as opposed to the bottom third I lounged in last year

How is that you view others' teams? I downloaded the spreadsheet and have been clicking on the names, or that hyperlink thing and then some window pops up saying that the page can't be found.

Which links exactly doesn't work? It works here

On another note, it actually seems as though I've missed three teams. Sorry. I'll add them to the next spreadsheet.

Yeh, Pardilla is the Movistar I dropped after Cobo announced, I really wanted him but the more I looked, the harder it was for me to see decent points unless he gets top15 in a GT. I also wanted Benat, but dismissed him for the same reasons before Cobo signed, and Karpets. In the end I'm happy hedging with Plaza and Quintana.

Wait, nobody picked Tsatevich? Did anyone seriously consider it? I don't know much about him, which is why I held off, but his results were super impressive.

I have him signed in a keepers fantasy league (of a sort) another place, but actually think there's too many sprint chefs on Katusha next year:

Freire, Galimzyanov, Kristoff, Haller, (Paolini), Selig & Tsatevich.

He's got potential though.

Will someone else check if the "links" system in the spreadsheet works?
When you're at the first sheet, the "Rankings" sheet, if you click on one of the team names, you should automatically be taken to that team's sheet.

Does it work? It does here.

im afraid you equal 1st with everyone else - why didnt you add say Cav and EBH?

Well, I think technically if teams have the same number of points, then the team with the largest net score wins. So that probably makes Dim top at the moment (assuming that others picked teams with closer to 7500 points).

So Dim will be top until the first ranking comes out :D

Here's my superb team:

BARDET Romain 130
BASSO Ivan 917

:p:p Our aim is top 100. With 6 unique picks (Miyazawa, Chris Juul , Jonas Aaen, Tommy, Troels Vinther and Manuele Boaro) I'm on the 14th place of The Uniqueness Ranking (IIRC) and with those I've picked almost half of the Saxo team (Tommy totes counts as Saxo as well). I'll come with a clarification of my picks some time today. (I have to think about some legit reasons...)

I still like my team. Probably too many Basques (4 + Cabedo) and personal favorites (Baugnies, Salerno) to win the whole thing, but I have a nice mix of very popular riders (everybody needs them even though they can't win you the game) and some dramatically overlooked good picks (what's with the lack of love for Martens, Ciolek, Vaugrenard, Guarnieri, Costa and Bertagnolli? In my opinion they'll all make a nice profit barring injuries or illness). Pello Bilbao will burst onto the scene and Baugnies will win at least two 1.1 races. And Ulissi will be 800+ by the end of the year; such an incredibly classy rider.

I regret not picking Koldo Fernandez, Assan Bazayev, Allan Davis, Jens Keukeleire and Matteo Carrara. They'll do pretty well, I reckon.

My pride prevented me from choosing Stijn Devolder. Better luck in 2012, Stijn!

Alright, here's the final spreadsheet. And to all our newcommers, here's how it works:

When you download and open the spreadsheet, the first thing you'll see is a sheet named "Rankings". This is the main screen. Here you see a list of all the teams and their score.

In column A you have "Rank". This is pretty self explanatory as it simply states what place each team currently is in.

In column B you have "Teams". Once again pretty self explanatory. You'll notice if you drag your mouse over a name on the list, that each name has a "link". If you press a team name, you'll be taken to that teams sheet where you can see which riders this specific team has.

In column C you have "Points". This is the amount of points the team has earned this season.

In column D you have "Profit" which is simply "Points" minus the value of the team (so if a team has earned 10.000 points and had a value of 7500 when sent in, "Profit" will say 2500. You'll also notice that the number appearing is either colored red or green which is simple an aesthetic little feature I've added so it's easy to quickly spot who's in the positives and who's in the negatives - I've done this for column E, F and I as well.

In column E you have "Ratio" which shows how many points the team has earned in percentages relating to the value of the team.

In column F you have "Points this week" which, unsurprisingly, shows how many points the team has earned since last update.

Column G and H are hidden as they just show some back ground statistics.

In column I you have "Up/down". This column shows how each team has moved since last update. If you're team for instance was 14th last update and 10th now, the column will show "4" because you've moved four places up.

In column J you have "Rank this week". This is basically just an elaboration of "Points this week" as this shows how you've been doing this week compared to the other teams. If you team has earned the 20th most points this week it'll show "20" in the column.

The spreadsheet is by default sorted by "Rank" so that the top team is the one that is actually ahead of the competition. However, if you want to sort by "Rank this week", "Up/down" or something else, it's simple to just highlight that column, right-click and select "Sort.." and then you can sort with the highest value on top etc.

The rest of the sheets are simply every team's individual sheet. They are sorted alphabetically so it's easy to find your team but remember that you can simply click your team name in column B and you'll be taken to your sheet.

The last three sheets, "2011 Results", "2012 Results" and "Last week" you don't have to worry about. They simply include all the numbers the spreadsheet needs.

---------------

In this first edition of the spreadsheet I've inserted the 2010 values for each rider into the "2012 Results". This way you can get an idea of how it works. Basically what you'll see is how your team will do this season if all riders match their 2010 season (don't worry if it isn't 100% correct - a few riders have changed names like Betancourt -> Betancur and I didn't bother to change it. It will be fine in the next updates)

The spreadsheet will be updated when CQRanking.com updates. This is usually every week and once the latest update is available for download on CQRanking.com I'll update the spreadsheet as well and upload it for everyone to download.

---------------

That should be it.

If you spot any mistakes or errors - spelling mistakes, links that don't work etc. - please send me a PM.

I seriously considered Costa, Guarnieri (who in fact was the last rider I swapped for someone else), Pello Bilbao and Sanz but I guess you can't have 'em all :)

I heard people talking about some obvious Pole, but I didn't know who they were talking about until now.

I think there's a couple aspects that will see BICING stand out:

- BOOM Lars only chosen by 5 people, I consider him a very small risk for a big gain, I think the minimum he'll score is 550 and expect him to hit over 750.

- CIOLEK Gerald and STEEGMANS Gert have been selected by 9 and 10 people consecutively. This is a big plus for me, because Omega-Pharma-QuickStep are, in my opinion, a reincarnation of the old HTC-Highroad. They have a ton of great time trialists and engines, a lot of guys have work experience in HTC's train, and they have many of HTC's old staff. Omega-Pharma-QuickStep have 4 sprinters: Boonen, Chicchi, Ciolek and Steegmans. We've seen with Ciolek and Steegmans that they have terrific speed. They're going to score at least 600 each.

EDIT: Also, I don't think we should read too much into the unique picks. They're not going to make tremendous differences. Rather, the riders chosen by less than 15-20 teams will be decisive. They'll score enough points, but not 80+% of the competition won't have them.

VAUGRENARD Benoît, 11 pts, 14 teams
BOECKMANS Kris, 86 pts, 11 teams
STETINA Peter, 162 pts, 15 teams
MASCIARELLI Francesco, 127 pts, 7 teams
BLYTHE Adam, 173 pts, 18 teams
BERTAGNOLLI Leonardo, 59 pts, 11 teams
STEEGMANS Gert, 125 pts, 10 teams
DE GENDT Thomas, 485 pts, 15 teams
CIOLEK Gerald, 365 pts, 9 teams
BOOM Lars, 609 pts, 5 teams

Okay... I would assume that all teams would have the same score at the beginning... At least not over 7500 points, right? Can someone explain to me why, for example, Skibby the bush kangaroo has over 18000 points? And why I have less than 7499 points, which was the cost of my team? I'm sorry if it's really obvious and I'm just being stupid...

Edit: And why are there already 2012 results? I'm going crazy, please, can someone help me out?
