Menchov is a tricky one, not in my team, could fail big time or could double his score.

I'm not sure why so many people are so keen to reveal potential good picks? yes the discussions are good but bottom line is it's a competition, we saw last year how one or two revealed picks can make a huge difference!

I gave quite a lot of tips in the other thread, but a) noone knows whether my judgement is actually any good yet, and b) I CBF prohibiting discussing riders throughout the forum because of this one game. I love these games, but it can't be the be all and end all.

At the end of the day, my team is likely to be unique even if none of my riders are. I don't feel the need to be quite so cagey.

9 riders who fit varying definitions of "sprinters", 2 new pros, may not be finalised side.

I'm happy mentioning names for a couple of reasons:

1) I'm never giving away the complete truth
2) I'd rather play a game based on cycling knowledge than one of "who can trawl the 3000 names on CQ". "Good picks" should be based on analysis, not who looked the hardest.

The case where #2 doesn't exist is for obscure Continentals or Amateurs. You need some knowledge to actually know them in the first place. Don't think I've mentioned any of these in this thread.

Well I don't see Menchov as an obvious pick, so it is mostly for discussion that I mentioned him. IF I wanted to reveal obvious picks, I could have chosen lots of better examples...

PS: And it's also funny if you can trick others to pick 'good' picks that aren't that good after all:)

All good points well made, I just think you are damaging your chances revealing potentially good picks. Whether someone should or shouldn't pick Menchov for example, you are at the very least drawing attention to him and making people consider picking him.

I've already sent my team in, and over the last couple of months have picked up a couple of riders that I don't think I'd have considered unless I'd noticed the name in a forum post and that made me reconsider. Hopefully I'll have picked up a couple of useful riders.

And I don't buy all that "I'm not going to be cagy and not discuss cycling just because of this game" crap. Would it be so hard to have these exact same discussions in January? ;)

I've just submitted my/the winning team. I am really happy with it although I have taken some risks. Changed it a fair bit from last time I posted some info about my team. I may as well bore you all with it.

7 stage racers
7 pure climbers
9 Cobbled Classic riders
5 Sprinters
3 Time triallists
2 Others

No ardennes riders. No good value in any of the riders

Only 16 different nationalities now.

:)

Cannot decide on if I want to keep one or two riders...

But so far I have:
2 Attackers
1 Hills Specialist
4 Classics
4 Climbers
6 Too Young to Tell
3 Other
3 Sprinters
6 Stage Racers
4 TT

Well you still have to pick your team regardless of what is said by others, particularly if people can post red herrings. I doubt everyone would agree with my picks. A lot of relevant information appears in all sorts of threads, so if you want to withhold all potentially useful info you generally stop contributing for a month which is over the top. It's up to the individual, obviously.

Hm, in light of recent developments I'm editing my team...

Happy that Rafael Valls was signed by Vaconsoleil. I can now consider him much more thoroughly as an option for my CQ team.

Even ingsve didn't proclaim his team as the winning team until he had seen all other entries.

I have at least 9 TDU starters. I should be off to a good start for next year.

Need I remind you where microdose finished last year after scoring a huge tally in January ;)

Fair enough but I am confident in these riders to do well across the whole season.

The arrogance from ACF ( jks )

I wonder how many points Andy might gain. Top 5 in TDF but likely to maybe get at least 2 stages. The Giro could be attempted and i hope he can win at least one stage race before the TDF. He will probably also be a factor in the WC. I could go as far to say he might get +400 points if he does these things. Would anyone then consider getting him since he did not score so highly this year???

Hey come on now, he's won the Fleche de Sud, that's an important stage race for anyone to have on their palmares ;)

Andy scored about the same the last 3 years. Based on the technical analysis that's about his maximum. ;)

But maybe with a different prep with Hog he will be slightly more competitive in the off-peak races although I really doubt it.

Which reminds me.

I might be able to get my own back for the prediction which he proudly put into his signature.

I wouldnt be surprised if the final table turns out to be pretty much a reversal of current standings, with Roundabout 1st and Team Australia last.

Where did he finish? At least it wasn't totally off:D

I'd probably consider choosing one of the Schlecks if they have anything below 1000 points. At what they both gained this year is pretty much their average scores.

Gah, I had a decent team, but one of my previously unsigned bargains finally got a contract and now it's all up in the air again. The shortlist is longer than ever and I've lost my 'gut feeling' about who I want on the team:(

Totally sick of staring at a spreadsheet, so I just stuck what I had in. Gone for bargains mostly rather than sentimental picks or potential breakouts, so it could well be similar to many other teams.

Yeh that's the main thing, it doesn't matter what other people pick if you think your team is the best. It's not like there are going to be identical teams.
