The thing that I am stuck on right now is quality sprinters. Boonen can be a good pick but because he doesnt really want to do bunch sprints anymore it may not be a good choice. Guys like cav are just too expensive. There are some semi-obvious ones but for me the most difficult part is to pick quality/reliable sprinters

I decided to make a quick list of reliable sprinters :)

CAVENDISH Mark 1469
BOASSON HAGEN Edvald 1391
ROJAS GIL Jose Joaquin 1304
GOSS Matthew 1189
GREIPEL Andre 1173
KITTEL Marcel 1041
FEILLU Romain 995
FARRAR Tyler 953
BENNATI Daniele 953
HUSHOVD Thor 799
DEGENKOLB John 711
GALIMZYANOV Denis 698
VENTOSO ALBERDI Francisco Jose 649
PETACCHI Alessandro 614

For the CQ ranking almost all of them have at least one major drawback. So yes, I agree, that is a tough choice!!

Those are all pretty pricey. I've only managed to get some sprinters. Maybe like 2 of those are reliable. Others, I'll have to cross my fingers with.

I don't have any "top" sprinters (none from Gustie's list).

All the sprinters seemed to do so well this year, making it hard to find ones who will provide enough return in 2012.

I've got 3 who are borderline sprinters, and a neo-pro.

problem with sprinters is that although the top guys might score 1500, they cost 1000 anyway. Greater returns could be found elsewhere.

Di Luca being a good pick is not the matter of expectation that he'll have great times at Giro (and score many CQ points there) but because with Acqua Sapone he is supposed to ride Italian home races (category 1, HC) where he should/can score a lot.

Team in again after being caught in a returning rider issue re points, changed my team and maybe caught again in a similar issue where the riders was worth less points - kept the team anyways

Kump going back to Adria, might throw him in there now... should rack up 100.

Four who failed in 2011, and some youngsters yes.

I've got 4: 2 youngsters (one of whom will be popular) and 2 under performers. 2 in the 200-500 range, 2 at <200.

I'm not counting classicists i.e. Boonen types though.

I've just submitted my/the winning team. I am really happy with it although I have taken some risks. Changed it a fair bit from last time I posted some info about my team. I may as well bore you all with it.

7 stage racers
7 pure climbers
9 Cobbled Classic riders
5 Sprinters
3 Time triallists
2 Others

No ardennes riders. No good value in any of the riders

Only 16 different nationalities now.

:)

Now he's mentioned, yep hes on my list. :)

KEEP YOUR GOOD PICKS HIDDEN, SOME OF THEM ARE MINE TOO :( :(

Sorry it wasn't to upset anyone, but mostly because I think he is a gamble, and I wondered if people thought he would deliver:(

How many people have registered so far Hugo? I bet there will be well over a 100 entrants once it all starts.

Should be listed in the third post of this thread.

Menchov is a meh for me, 2010 is the best example of him going to the Tour and doing very well, but not scoring too many points.

If I was a fanboy I might pick him but not as things are.

Menchov is a tricky one, not in my team, could fail big time or could double his score.

I'm not sure why so many people are so keen to reveal potential good picks? yes the discussions are good but bottom line is it's a competition, we saw last year how one or two revealed picks can make a huge difference!
