Well, a disappointing week for sure; Vanendert's 2nd is a bit of a salve, but having a rider that half the teams have is much less appealing than having a high-scoring combo, and I had a good chance in AGR with picks like EBH and Battaglin to have some fast finishers score. And Le Bon continued his unfortunate spring by not coming anywhere near his 2nd place in Tro Bo Leon from last year.
Ah well, eyes ahead. Sam Bennett already picked me up a handy 80 points today to cement his place as the rider I'm second happiest about picking (barring disaster, Alberto will be untouchable for those honours this year). What else is going on?
Trentino
Aru
Anacona
Formolo
Moser
Battaglin
LL Sanchez
Teklehaimanot
I've got my fingers crossed that this will be Aru showing he's the real beast for Astana in the Giro, I think Scarponi's time is over. Anacona had a good show in the Columbian Nats but against a depleted field, still I hope for the best in some minor GC placings for him, Formolo (who seems very consistent) and Tekle; I think it's a bit too high-mountainy for LL Sanchez, and I'm hoping for anything from Moser or Battaglin. I'll take anything.
Fleche
Hesjedal
Andy Schleck (former podium finisher! True story)
Olivier
Lutsenko
Van Den Broeck
Vanendert
Coppel
Gerdemann
errr, maybe Jelle can do something in this again, other than that I got nothing. I'd say Hesjedal but this isn't his kind of climb, and being left off the AGR roster when he's a former podium finisher isn't exactly promising for his form.
LBL start list isn't set yet but I'd imagine my expectations won't be greater, despite the addition of some Trentino riders. I just don't have the best Ardennes team.
Turkey
Formolo
Howson
Colli
Gerdemann
LL Sanchez was on there yesterday, but not today...
this is the type of race where someone like Formolo can do well; he's the best climber on Cannondale's squad, the race is a proving ground for emerging talents, I'm hopeful. Gerdemann can shine in this kind of race too. We shall see.
