I'm really starting to regret Contador ! :(

Two other big regrets : Kenaugh and Cataldo was on my shortlist, but the incredible roster of Sky team made me remove them.
Now, Porte is bad, Wiggo close to retired, Henao suspended, kiriyenka close t othe end too ... so they have switched their gregarii jersey for a leading one ... grrrr

Update #12: Points galore can't topple the leader

As expected, week #12 of the 2014 cq ranking game ended in an overflow of points, nearly 100 participants scored 500 or more - but was this enough for anyone to overthrow the leader Geraint Too Fast? The answer is "no - it wasn't", another solid week for him was enough to maintain the top of the ranking, with upcoming Pentacycle and SteelyDan following closely.

With the overload of cycling races the points came from various sources, some gained them in Spain, where Contador could increase his score again, others in Italy from young Kennaugh or in Belgium and France, where John Degenkolb, Peter Sagan and Jicé Peraud gained glory

So did anyone have all of them? No, of course not, but EvansIsTheBest came close, Contador, Degenkolb and Kennaugh maed him score 964 points which was enough to become this week's top point scorer. Also Somar13, despite having a pool of only 29 riders, and Trudgin scored more than 900 points. This weeks Top are rounded out by The_Hitch and Team_Roubaix.

It also were Somar13 and Trudgin who thereby became this week's high movers, followed by kiilike, Netserk and Team Roubaix.

Point wise week #13 of the cq ranking game is likely to be much calmer, but with the Driedaagse de Panne and especially the Ronde van Vlaanderen coming up this cannot be said about the kind of racing we can expect - and those with the cobbles classics contenders in their teams will keep their fingers crossed for their guys to deliver.

Spreadsheet / CQ Update #12

Wow, top scorer with probably my best score for an update ever :) Up 21 places to fifth, really didn't expect the week to be that good. Really happy considering the fact that three riders on my team (Degenkolb, Contador, Boonen) have scored more than the rest combined. If Degenkolb and Contador continue to perform at the same standard for the next two weeks I have a good chance to lead after PR before starting my free fall through the rankings.

Well, I only went down by one spot, I suppose that's alright considering. This week will be relatively quiet, I've got Le Bon in de Panne for whom I've got my fingers crossed, and then him, Boonen, EBH, Phinney, van Baarle and Gerdemann for Flanders... obviously Boonen is a favourite but Phinney and Le Bon are question marks at best (they're both more suited to Roubaix, and of course Phinney has been ill even if he did finish in the front group of G-W), and I've been fooled by hoping for EBH in these races for 5 years now, so I won't be fooled again. Looks like it's up to Contador to swoop back in next week and make my team look respectable again.

I'm starting to be kind of disappointed with Bennati. I figured if MSR and GW were easy editions he could sprint to top 10's score decent points, being a pretty rare pick. Now, both times he made the first group, but it looked like he barely even bothered to sprint.

He can't be bothered anymore. That's why I didn't pick him.

Grrr, after 2 straight years picking him to no avail, Gillaume Van Kiersbulck breaks out. I knew it was coming, I knew it was coming. First Hepburn, then him. If Sicard breaks out this year I'll stab my eyes out. (I picked him all 3 years before this one)

On the plus side, Colli gets an unexpected handful of points to open his season, meaning I only have 4 riders who haven't yet scored. Now they just need to start scoring MORE.

Really annoyed for not picking G v K myself. I had him last year and he was probably in at least 18 of 20 early versions of my team for this year. Still cannot understand how and why he didn't make the final cut:(

It's always bittersweet when a former pick performs well. On one hand, you are happy for the guy that he managed to break through (since in my case I usually pick riders I like) and also that you weren't mistaken when you thought he had potential. But on the other hand, you had to drag him around as a burden for a year (or more) and when finally he scores, you can't take the profit. Van Keirsbulck was in my first draft but in the end, I took him out because I expected his breakthrough to come next year so I know how you feel. Don't worry about Sicard, he will continue to do nothing this year. He just doesn't have the right mentality to suceed (I guess stealing traffic cones while being drunk is much more appealing to him) which is a shame since he is clearly very talented. So your eyes should be safe ;)

Colli scored pretty well today so you must be pleased with that at least and don't worry, your teams have always finished the year strongly so you should be fine in the long run.

After Catalunya, Hesjedal put in another decent showing today so I am now feeling pretty confident he will turn out to be a decent pick (of course it won't matter much since he is so popular but it is always nicer when your team actually scores).

Looking at the top teams, RVV shouldn't see huge discrepancies in points since everyone has Boonen and then it will come down to who will score more between Roelandts+Phinney, Stybar, Degenkolb, Kristoff and Boasson Hagen (ok, the teams with EBH will probably lose some ground but otherwise it should be pretty evenly matched). Of course, if Sénéchal does break clear on the Koppenberg with Trentin to win his first monument in front of the Italian while Degenkolb wins the sprint for third in front of Boonen, all those predictions would become moot. Also, in that scenario I would take the lead. For some reason I feel it won't happen :D

Yeah I'm interested to see if there are really any great shakes from today; doesn't seem like a ton of points from too many riders that were picked by more than a handful of teams, Boonen aside.

For me, ever the fool, once G Thomas was dropped and Eddy was looking good I was like 'wow, is this FINALLY gonna be it?' Aaaaand, 22nd place, 8th in a group of 8 or something. Sigh. Phinney looked good, and stayed out of crash trouble by being in the break, so that's good as I'm looking to him for P-R. More worrying is Le Bon, who's my most unique pick and so the rider I'm kind of rooting for most, crashing out early. P-R is more his race, as I said in an earlier post, but you can't get a showing if you're too hurt to race.

This week was pretty poor. I only scored in RVV with Boonen, Degenkolb and a couple of 5-pointers. Next week should be better with a big line up for Pais Vasco which includes 8 of my 10 most expensive picks :
Contador
Barguil
Villella
Kennaugh
Brajkovic
LL Sanchez
Hesjedal
Van den Broeck
Vanendert
A Schleck
Cunego
S Yates

(only a short update today, I am not at home at the moment...)

Update #13: Dutch lead on the Pavé

The first part of the big pavé classics season ended with a surprise and Pentacycle at the top after week #13 of the CQ Ranking game 2014. A score of 276 points was enough to take the lead from Geraint Too Fast.
Contador's 56 points from today's first stage of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco were included in this update, but even without that, it had just been enough to keep up the momentum from the last weeks, when he moved up 17 spots in just 14 days.

This week's Top Scorer is Tanja, the only team with Fabian Cancellara, whereby she also became this week's highest mover.

This Week's Top Scorers

7 (+2) Ruvu75 3548
8 (+2) Oliveira 3546
9 (-2) freshman 3480

With Contador currently leading the Vuelta al Pais Vasco Pentacycle can hope to retain the lead in week #14. Or will a suprise winner at Paris Roubaix give us a new leader again?! We will see next week, when the grand cq game founder Hugo Koblet takes over to bring back some style to this ;)

Spreadsheet / CQ Update #13

(the points for Beltran have been adjusted, so 5 more for everyone with him)
