Update #24: Few points from the Tour de Suisse

The main race of the week has been the Tour de Suisse, but not so many points were assigned thanks to that race. Wonderlance wins the week but thanks to the popular Gilbert and the rare Tom Doumulin. At the second place we have HelgeBlendet that has a really good pick like Formolo. At the lowest place of the podium there is Grimm that has Sagan which scores always good point in Switzerland.

This Week's Top Scorers
1 WonderLance 566
2 HelgeBlendet 487
3 Grimm 486
4 Yellow Knight 446
5 tomazo 435

This Week's High Jumpers
1 WonderLance (+24)
2 Grimm (+17)
3 the_fool_on_the_hill (+15)
4 vladimir (+13)
5 HelgeBlendet (+12)

Wonderlance is even at the top of the high jumpers and as well we find Grimm and HelgeBlendet, plus the_fool_on_the_hill and vladimir.

Top 10 Overall
1 (-) Geraint Too Fast 8215 57
2 (+2) freshman 8197 344
3 (-) MCardinalR 8164 149
4 (-2) Milanello 8144 103
5 (+2) Pentacycle 7998 380
6 (-1) Cykeltyven 7960 122
7 (-1) rywann 7927 189
8 (+3) minessa 7806 279
9 (-) just some guy 7800 226
10 (-2) The Hitch 7765 168

The top10 is really short so we have often a lot of changes. Freshman is really close to the leader Geraint Too Fast. Milanello has lost two positions, like The Hitch. A new entry this week: minessa that make a +3, while Oliveira is out of the top 10.

Great week for me. Formolo is indeed fun to follow. Thought he might score 250 points this season and he already exceeded the exprectations.

Guess I'll drop back once the Tour starts as my GC hopes hinge on A. Schleck and... well... Huzarski? On the other hand, that might be an interesting "battle" to follow

I think the first update I'm supposed to do is next week but I am avaible for this week if necessary.

Anyway, my team broke even just before the TDF thanks to a number of good results in the nationals (Kennaugh, Degenkolb, LL Sanchez, Boonen...) with a couple more riders into profit as well :)

Last month I estimated that I needed to be less than 1000 points back before the TDF to stand a chance of finishing with a good result. I'm "only" 892 points behind so now it's time for Degenkolb to sweep the late season sprinters classics and for Contador to win the TDF and the Vuelta and it might just be enough.

This week it is still my turn but at the moment I had an overload week...if you have time to do it, it would be great, otherwise I will try to find some time this night...

Update #25: Better late than never

With TeoSheva busy at the moment, I will do the update this week. Better get used to it since I will cover the Tour de France too. The week during which are held most national championships is probably the week when the most races awarding CQ points are ridden. This mean that many team scored through a number of different riders, while no one rider really stood out. Somar13 is this week top scorer, relying mainly on Démare, Kennaugh, Bole and Keizer for the point scoring. Nicosix main point scorer was also Démare while Londonpat and Slow_rider's main man was Langeveld. Izaguirre was a rare pick that pushed Afrank up to 5th on the list.

This Week's Top Scorers
1 Somar13 684
2 Slow_Rider 627
3 Nicosix 616
4 Londonpat 581
5 Afrank 559

As it so often is the case, the week high jumpers list is dominated by the week's top scorer. Somar13 leads both lists, improving by no less than 24 places. In fact, 4 of the 5 high jumpers already featured on the week's top scorer list. The only 'intruder' is LaFlorecita, which was actually the 7th best scorer this week. She scored 545 points from a variety of riders, Kennaugh being her best rider of the week with a big round 100 points.

This Week's High Jumpers
1 Somar13 (+24)
2 Slow_Rider (+17)
3 Londonpat (+14)
4 Afrank (+13)
5 LaFlorecita (+13)

The top 10 teams were pretty quiet this week, not scoring much. Enough was scored for one major change though. freshman wrestles the lead from Geraint Too Fast for a mere 4 points. With MCardinalR and Milanello hovering very close, the game is delicately balance before this small bike race in France you may or may not have heard about. minessa and just some guy leave the top 10 making way to Oliveira and Ferminal.

Top 10 Overall
1 freshman 8484
2 Geraint Too Fast 8480
3 MCardinalR 8403
4 Milanello 8402
5 Pentacycle 8298
6 Cykeltyven 8263
7 rywann 8242
8 The Hitch 8069
9 Oliveira 8054
10 Ferminal 8031

Good lord. Here's my TdF team:

Contador
Van den Broeck
Andy Schleck
Danny Van Poppel

That's it. I don't think I've even had less than 8 riders in the TdF in the three previous editions of this game. I would normally think it's a blessing in disguise since it frees up some strong guys for some other races, but in Austria I have Lutsenko, Coppel and Vanendert, and Colli in Qinghai Lake. Where is everyone?

Oh well, 30th isn't terrible, and with a strong autumn I could pull myself back. Obviously I expect a high placing from Contador and VdB, but it's scary to think I'm one crash away from total TdF failure.

Tour de France
CONTADOR VELASCO Alberto
DEGENKOLB John
FEILLU Romain
SCHLECK Andy
TAARAMÄE Rein
TRENTIN Matteo
VAN DEN BROECK Jurgen
YATES Simon

Austria

BRAJKOVIC Janez
COPPEL Jérôme
KENNAUGH Peter
QUINTANA ROJAS Dayer Uberney
VANENDERT Jelle
VILLELLA Davide
ZABEL Rick

Qinghai

Nobody

Kennaugh's non-selection for the Tour de France is looking more and more like a blessing in disguise since he won the first stage of the Tour of Austria. Coppel and Brajkovic might also score a few points in the GC. Hopefully Zabel will pick up a couple of stages as well.
My team for the Tour is pretty good. Not that many riders but those that are riding are capable of scoring big. Contador will probably finish in the top 2 and Van den Broeck will up there in the GC. Taaramäe, Schleck and Yates can all finish in the top 20 and bring in some GC points. Degenkolb can shine on a number of stages where Kittel won't feature, such as stage 5. Trentin will hopefully repeat his victory of last year and even Feillu won a race recently.

Update #26 : Another slow week

With the Tour de France having just gotten underway and the Tour of Austria in its early stages too, it has been a pretty low key week for most. However with popular picks (Dayer Quintana, Peter Kennaugh) going strong in Austria, the next update promises to be more exciting. The two teams with Kittel unsurprisingly top the best scorers list, with coinneach barely edging out bicing. The fact of that the week's topscorer managed only 224 points is probably the best evidence that this update is hardly decisive. The teams having placed their faith in Sagan : Grimm, Trudgin, Hugo87 in that order round up the top five.

This Week's Top Scorers
1 coinneach 224
2 bicing 221
3 Grimm 180
4 Trudgin 150
5 Hugo87 140

Grimm jumps eleven places to become the week's highest jumper. Bicing also appears on both lists, while R_O_Shipman and Londonpat gain 8 and 7 places respectively. Last year champion, SteelyDan, is fifth courtesy of points from Kwiatkowski and Kennaugh.

This Week's High Jumpers
1 Grimm (+11)
2 bicing (+8)
3 R_O_Shipman (+8)
4 Londonpat (+7)
5 SteelyDan (+5)

The top 10 remains unchanged this week. Freshman and Geraint Too Fast have scored the exact same amount of points (35) , therefore freshman retains his slim four points advantage. Milanello is closing the gap though. With so little happening this week, it's as good a time as any to look at the progress of the collective wisdom team. It is actually going rather well, since it would rank in 14th position with 7957 points. That results has to be tempered by the fact that at a cost of 7551 points it would have been slightly overbudget.

Top 10 Overall
1 freshman 8519
2 Geraint Too Fast 8515
3 Milanello 8478
4 MCardinalR 8405
5 Pentacycle 8348
6 rywann 8277
7 Cykeltyven 8263
8 The Hitch 8110
9 Oliveira 8097
10 Ferminal 8072

Thx for the update!

Two places down starts my Tour-slide. Dayer Quintana and Coppel in Austria might act as a parachute.

And just because someone has to say it.....

With Andy Schleck injured and out of the season, he surely is a MUST pick for next season. Just 37 points this year and he should EASILY score 800 points or more coming back stronger than ever!!!

If I even consider taking that guy next year somebody remind me of this year, last year, and so on. How could you go wrong with a former tour winner for 99 pts???? I guess to much picking with my heart and not my head. As we say here in Cleveland "wait till next year".

I'm not a huge fan of Contador and I don't have him on my team, but I still feel sad.

That said, I did expect nothing at the Tour, but Gallopin and Trentin are fun so far. Picking Tony might not be as bad as I feared after the classics.

CQRanking finally uploaded the new rankings so here is the new update.

Update #27 : Austria proves decisive

With the Tour de France well and truly under way and the conclusion of the Tour of Austria (actually it was mostly the conclusion of the Tour of Austria that mattered), this update offered the potential for much higher point scoring than the last one. In fact, due to the unfortunate crashes of many popular riders in the Tour de France and the resulting lack of GC points, this might be the best week this month for many teams. For instance, this week’s highest scoring team, which happens to be my own, won’t be able to count on Contador to bring in the points for the rest of the month. He did however score 50 points before crashing out. Alongside Kennaugh, Coppel, Trentin and D. Quintana, he is one of the main reasons I lead the field this week with 550 points. Yoyokt is the only other team to break the 500 points barrier and unsurprisingly, shares many of his high-scorers (Kennaugh, D. Quintana, Coppel) with EvansIsTheBest. In fact, these three riders feature on all of the top five high- scoring teams this week (gustienordic, the_sceptic and riaroadtrip, in that order are the other teams in that top five.

This Week's Top Scorers
1 EvansIsTheBest 550
2 yoyokt 508
3 gustienordic 471
4 the_sceptic 466
5 riaroadtrip 458

Surprisingly, this week’s highest jumper doesn’t feature on the highest scorers list. In fact, Maaaaaaaarten is only 13th this week in terms of point scoring but yet he/she still gains an impressive 18 places. This is probably due to the proximity of most of the highest scoring teams to the top of the table where it is obviously harder to improve. EvansIsTheBest still manages to shave his ranking in half, going from 28th to 13th. gustienordic and riaroadtrip show similar improvement to also earn their place in the top 20. That leaves, theyoungest who barely cracks the top 100 (from 113th to 100th) and the_sceptic who jumps 15 places into 42nd. He might still lag a little behind those in the top 20, but his rare pick of Porte should help him to continue his rise in the coming weeks.

This Week's High Jumpers
1 Maaaaaaaarten (+18)
2 EvansIsTheBest (+15)
2 the_sceptic (+15)
4 gustienordic (+14)
5 riaroadtrip (+13)
5 theyoungest (+13)

This week was an eventful one as far as the top ten was concerned. Indeed, in the top ten, not a single team kept its position from last week. It obviously means that we have a new leader. Milanello leads the game for the very first time this year as he/she surpasses freshman, due to, in no small part, Kennaugh’s success in Austria. Even though Milanello’s team doesn’t look quite as ominous since Contador’s unfortunate crash, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it went all the way to the title. Milanello will have to watch out for Oliveira’s team which is definitely on the rise, jumping from 9th to 4th. Meanwhile, former leader Pentacycle continues to lose ground and four places. Minessa’s team makes its comeback in the top 10 while Ferminal slips from 10th to 12th.

Top 10 Overall
1 Milanello 8773
2 freshman 8742
3 Geraint Too Fast 8628
4 Oliveira 8507
5 rywann 8497
6 MCardinalR 8468
7 The Hitch 8453
8 Cykeltyven 8448
9 Pentacycle 8435
10 minessa 8420

awww yeah got mentioned in the update. :p

lol I'd given up on this year's game already because it was going kind off crappy for me, now I check back for the first time in a few weeks and I'm the highest jumper that's a nice suprise.
