Nice to be back on track, after an update in which I scored only 17 points. The good thing about this game, are those little surprises. Campenaerts gave me four points by finishing 23rd in the Tour de Picardie. Normally you don't care about that, but this time you care at least a little bit about it.

Uran starts to look like a good pick! I hope Quintana will be incredible strong in the mountains and they will finish 1-2. That would be incredible for my team. Poels is very impressing so far too!

PS: Why the heck did I selected Pozzato?

After several weeks of dropping significantly in the rankings, I suppose a slight rebound is good news. If I want to dream of some kind of comeback, I suppose I can take heart in the fact that, given recent developments in the Giro, a top ten that includes Uran, Basso, Kiserlovski, Aru, Monfort, Hesjedal, and Cataldo is not entirely far-fetched.

Okay, Cataldo is out; maybe he will go for a stage win. But as for the others:

1 Rigoberto Uran Uran (Col) Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team 49:37:35
7 Fabio Aru (Ita) Astana Pro Team 0:03:37
10 Robert Kiserlovski (Cro) Trek Factory Racing 0:04:41
11 Ivan Basso (Ita) Cannondale 0:05:09
16 Ryder Hesjedal (Can) Garmin Sharp 0:06:55
17 Maxime Monfort (Bel) Lotto Belisol 0:07:01

I have Uran, Basso and Hesjedal out of that list plus Brambilla.

I remember discussing Sinkeldam as a pick in this game with someone earlier this year and I see that he is now into profit. Granted he didn't do it in spectacular fashion but congratulations to whomever picked him anyway.

I think you and I discussed him. I have to admit I was truly disappointed by Sinkeldam’s spring-campaign – by all standards very, very poor. However, he is clearly on form and delivering at the moment. Solid choice. He might rank up more points at the upcoming Ronde Van Zeeland.

You are preforming well in this year’s game btw. You left out Fabio Aru though! Lets see how he goes tomorrow.

Update #20: Giro dominating the week

We're in the middle of the Giro with just a few smaller side events so it's natural that the Giro is the main predictor of points this week. Uran is looking better and better for people who have him and he of course influenced this weeks scores. Outside the Giro Maciej Paterskis win in Norway gives good fortune to karlboss, Leadbelly and Oliveira who are the one ones to pick him. Marc de Maar, Grega Bole and Ramon Sinkeldam are high scoring unique picks for the week.

This Week's Top Scorers

1. Oliveira 599
2. Leadbelly 527
3. asdfgh101 512
4. Ludwigzgz 501
5. Slow_Rider 442

This Week's High Jumpers

1. Oliveira (+24)
2. Leadbelly (+20)
3. Ludwigzgz (+18)
4. asdfgh101 (+17)
5. Fus87 (+16)

Getting in the top scorers this week comes off of the combination of Uran, Paterski and Battaglin. Well done. A longer list would have also found yours truly on 16th place and 9th top mover. A decent week in a bad year for me.

Top 10 Overall
1, (-) freshman 6488
2, (-) Pentacycle 6325
3, (+1) rywann 6144
4, (+1) Geraint Too Fast 5988
5, (-2) knallertjeblaf 5978
5, (+5) lenissart 5978
7, (-1) Ruvu75 5912
8, (-) Ferminal 5882
9, (+3) Cykeltyven 5879
10, (+1) just some guy 5850

In the top 10 the big mover is lenissart who gains 5 places with a week led by Battaglin with Fabio Aru helping out a bit which might be a sign of things to come when the Giro is summarized next week. Another mover is Cykeltyven who enters the top 10 while EvansIsTheBest drops 6 places to fall out of the top 10.

Well, back-to-back wins by Battaglin and Aru saved my week from disaster, but things are far from being the most rosy (no Giro-leader-shirt pun intended) in terms of the near future. Aru is fulfilling my prediction of ascendancy (with Scarponi, who I picked in the 'career in decline' game, living up to his end of the deal), so that's great. Hesjedal seems to be hanging in there despite looking terrible, and has proven to be his strongest in the third week in the past, so I could be looking at a top ten or better if he stays consistent and a few other guys crack. That's the best-case scenario - my other guys in the Giro have been invisible, I suppose I can cross my fingers for Anacona or Van Baarle (or, god forbid, De Gendt) to grab an opportunistic break in the third week and snatch a stage victory, but there's not much else to cheer for. When are you back to racing, Contador?

This week, I have Boonen in Belgium, Gerdemann, Craddock, Dombrowski and Bennett in Bayern (and LL Sanchez is on the start list despite me reading that he's taking a break), Formolo in this fjords race. So a few things going on.

In other news, Taylor Phinney fractured his leg, but after winning the US TTs. This is unfortunate, but as far as his CQ points go, if he has to miss the TdF and comes back to peak again for stuff like Eneco and the WCTTs, it could be good in the end.

Finally, just going back through this thread and wanted to address CQ Manager's comments last week about the organizers 'disappearing' and updates not happening. I know it's been addressed by others, but I wanted to touch on it as this year's 'main' organizer. So regards to the comment about Hugo not being here, of course he's not since he's not organizing the game anymore. It doesn't seem strange that he's 'disappeared', since that was announced well in advance. As far as I go, I let it be known last year that I could compile the spreadsheet in January and launch the game, but I've been working from April-July in a bush camp every year since long before this forum was around, so that limits my internet severely (sometimes one day a week, like this week). So yes, I am not around either. mc mountain was the person who pulled together all the moving parts and has kept this thing on track, alerting those who volunteered to do updates when their turn was coming up etc. So I, and we, are in debt to him for that. Regardless of whether some people have had pleasant or unpleasant exchanges with each other on this forum, I just want to give credit where credit is due for this year's game. It's been a fun and competitive game thus far; let's keep it up.

Thx for the update ! ;)

Another good week for me, reaching the top5 :D

Now, i fear about Uran !
If he continue to lead the giro until the end, I will go pretty much down :(

Another bad news, the Phiney's injury. Looking the result, he probably won the US champ last night ... damn ...

And Y continue to repeat in myself : "Why EBH and not Uran, Contador or Kwiat ... grrrr ...."

With Quintana and Aru on the podium (and top 10 from Hesjedal), plus top placings on stages from Quintana, Aru, Pirazzi. I think I'll actually have had a pretty good week for once. :) Not that I have any chance of a real high placing overall anymore, but it would be cool to get a mention in a update.

The first points for Niccolo BONIFAZIO in Turkey.

For the GIRO D'ITALIA:

> Probably Enrico BATTAGLIN and Moreno MOSER, Thomas DE GENDT? (for the stages).

Big Team. Vediamo...

Excellent Giro for me.

Update #21: Big swings

So what's there to say other than the Giro being a big watershed race. Either you had it or you didn't pretty much sums this up. Some huge leaps this week in both directions. fauniera gaining 71 places in a single week and Skippy the bush Kangaroo drops 54 places.

Without going back to check the history of the game my guess is that this might have been one of the highest scoring weeks of the entire history of the game. Ben1376, fauniera and Milanello all managed to get the entire Giro podium but more importantly LOTS of teams managed to get two out of three of the Giro podium and very few didn't have a single one.

We also have our first teams to make it into a profit for the year. Geraint Too Fast and Milanello are the ones to first surpass their teams cost this year. he way this game has developed since the first year when I won it is staggering. Now it's a rule rather than an exception that most teams probably will reach the breakeven point at least. There will always be some exceptions but by an large people have picked up very well on how the fundamentals of this game play out. That certainly wasn't the case in the first year of this game. Back then you could tell just by looking at a team that it wouldn't stand a chance. Now it's much harder to predict how a team will fair overall.

This Week's Top Scorers

1. Ben1376 2146
2. fauniera 2101
3. Milanello 1930
4. highoctane 1885
5. Slow_Rider 1875

This Week's High Jumpers

1. fauniera (+71)
2. Ben1376 (+66)
3. Slow_Rider (+61)
4. highoctane (+53)
5. Tuarts (+51)

This Month's Top Scorers

1. fauniera 2927
2. Ben1376 2632
3. Milanello 2569
4. Tuarts 2551
5. asdfgh101 2540
5. PeterB 2540

This Month's High Jumpers

1. fauniera (+84)
2. asdfgh101 (+59)
3. Tuarts (+58)
3. Slow_Rider (+58)
5. CraZyCaLL (+53)
5. Ben1376 (+53)

Top of the week and top of the month. The clear winner of the month is fauniera who climbs 84 places moving from 119th to 34th place. Uran and Aru were popular picks but some people also believed in Quintana and that certainly payed off this week. I'm still not convinced that Quintana is a good pick overall but I guess he's better than having picked an expensive riders that are struggling to earn back their cost.

Top 10 Overall
1. (+3) Geraint Too Fast 7788
2. (+10) Milanello 7677
3. (-2) freshman 7412
4. (+18) MCardinalR 7380
5. (-2) rywann 7374
6. (+4) just some guy 7280
7. (+2) Cykeltyven 7124
8. (+8) Oliveira 7015
9. (-1) Ferminal 7003
10. (+11) *Falze* 6978

Lots of things happening in the top 10 of course after a week like this. Milanello, MCardinalR, Oliveira and *Falze* are new to the top 10 which sees Geraint Too Fast grab the lead at this point. Let's see if the team can stick at it and give us just as an exciting race for the win as last year.

And that's all for my weeks doing the updates. Good luck to each and every one of you for the rest of the year.

At least I "won" something then.

Congrats! :D

I must have earned a second place in your category as I have slipped 33 positions

Damn, I will be lucky to finish in TOP 100

Happy to be back at the top :D. Hope I can hang on for one more week until the Contador domination starts again...

This is exactly what I was thinking when I picked Quintana. When I started putting my team together I knew I was going to need a 1000+ point rider to use up my budget, and from my 3-man shortlist (Quintana/Porte/Contador) he seemed like the safest option. At the moment it looks like Contador would have been a better pick, but Porte would have been a worse one so I'm not too disappointed.

Dropped 11 places, almost as expected. However I needed to have a better Giro; DNF from Brajkovic, Kruiswijk and Rosa hurts...
Looking ahead I have almost no riders aiming for Le Tour so unless Contador wins I fear I will drop even further. On a positive note at least all my 33 riders now is on the scoresheet after Vorobyev's surprisingly great TT in Bayern:)

Haha -13, and almost 1000p behind the leader now. The Giro update is one to forget.

However, Contador should deal with this problem very soon
