Sneak peak at how Milan San Remo might affect the rankings this week...

- One team (Ceramiche Cauz) had Degenkolb
- nobody had Kristoff
- two teams (cj2003 and vernakular) had Matthews
- as has been noted in this thread, 35 teams had Sagan (including vernakular who had Matthews)
- one team (BigMac) had Bonifazio
- nobody had Bouhanni

Very interesting - I think the minor points and other 1.1/1.HC races are going to have a say in the rankings this week, but definitely a number of unique picks that can affect this week greatly.

For me, I had an okay week. Sagan getting 4th is, well, okay. It's 53 points better than his finish last year, which I'm counting on for the classics (as I said last week, barring crashes he's gotta do better than 10th/16th/6th in the monuments). And none of the guys high up in MSR are really popular picks, so I think it's a net gain in the game. Boasson Hagen getting 10th is at least some points from a guy who has not looked good this season.

I found out that Foliforov won a Russian 2.2 race, which gets 29 points I believe (25 for the win and 4 for the stage), to go on his unexpected 10 points from a 1.2 race earlier this week too. 12 points from breaking even, and very few teams have him. Filosi I mentioned earlier this week in a similar vein, with 42 points. Not really much else of note in terms of scoring.

The big news, and it's bad news, is that Rodriguez is out of a Catalunya that, despite the talented lineup and his shaky results so far, really suited him. I'm sure that even on current form he could pull 200 points out of there. Such is the way with big picks. It's a long season, though - he's got Pais Vasco, the Ardennes (Fleche and Liege are his bread and butter), the Dauphine and 2 Grand Tours. I'm sure he'll score some points. But yeah, a probable gain of over 150 points being scuppered by a stomach virus kinda sucks.

Rodriguez wasn't scheduled to do PV as far as I know, so I don't think it will affect his scoring too much actually, as PV suits him nicely as well.

Between Quintana, Sagan, EBH and Benoot my team is finally going to pick up some points :)

Very happy for Degenkolb. I just wished he hadn't punctured and gotten the same result last year, when he was actually on my team.

Hmm, I didn't realize J-Rod wasn't originally in PV, but (even though i don't know the parcours, just generally) it doesn't suit him quite as well as Catalunya I think. Thanks for the info though!

Even without J-Rod, I've got some outside hopes, and of course it's a busy weeks with the classics and stage races. Here's what I've got (excluding Taiwan because I've got no one):

Catalunya

Atapuma
Porte
Dombrowski
Latour
Chevrier
De Gendt
Vervaeke
Ewan
Stuyven
Hivert
Ledanois
Schumacher

Lots of guys here so something's gotta work out. That said, despite the talent of at least the first three, none of them are even leading their team. My three French neo-pro climbers are all here, as well as Vervaeke - one of them could conceivably get in the right break and make something happen. Ewan will be one of the best sprinters for whatever stages might end in one, and Hivert is in with a good chance of a high placing on the 'reduced bunch' stages that include most of the course. Schumacher makes his inglorious return to the World Tour calendar after 7 years! Finally - what the hell is Stuyven doing here? I would've thought he'd do DDV, E3 and G-W, and have a good showing at any of them. Puzzling.

DDV

Dennis (wha?)
Gaudin
EBH
Goss
Zordan

A bit of a disappointing lineup, for sure - this is the type of race EBH can do something at, but I don't really know how I feel about anyone else. Meh.

Coppi e Bartali and Corsica/Criterium International not full lineups yet

E3

Sagan
Stannard
Gaudin
Zordan
EBH
Goss

Everyone (except probably Zordan, and, if I'm being honest, Goss) can get some points.

G-W

Same as above plus Cav, who if he can make it to the final, can definitely take it.

My week looks incredibly Sagan and luck-dependent.

Will be cheering on Cavendish, Stannard, Yates and Boom for MSR

A mechanical and a crash for the first two :(

Kevin Reza picked up about 30 points in two of the one day races over the weekend, and Van Keirsbluck 20. And Adam Yates 80 from Tirreno is about it for this week. Have been teetering on the edge for a while, but will surely drop out of the top 50.

So many points on offer next week, should be like having a store card

Update #11: Geraint To First - lead changes hands in a Monumental week for teams with unique picks

Well, is this game fun or what? Results were all over the place this week, and it shows on the leaderboard - if you look at the top 25 teams on the update tab, there is all kinds of movement. A mere seven teams out of 155 maintained their placing this week. Lots of this wide variation is due to some pretty unique and expensive picks getting some pretty big points. Uran, Pinot, Mollema, Matthews, and Degenkolb are all very rare or unique picks that show up in the top 10 teams for the week. For those with a combination of high scoring riders from either the above set, or from the 'moderately popular expensive rider' group including Sagan and Quintana this week, a top placing was in order. No fewer than 7 of the top 15 teams this week had not even scored a top 15 weekly placing in the 10 weeks so far this year.

No combination was better this week than the team of frequent velorooms thread contributor Trudgin, however, as her team clobbered the competition by an astounding 115 points! Having Quintana, Sagan, Pinot and the surprisingly good unique pick Cimolai will do that to a team an impressive 762 points for the week. The top 9 teams all had Quintana (10th place Sasquatch, the first non-Quintana team, had an intriguing cocktail of rare picks including Nizzolo and Fedrigo).

This week's top scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 Trudgin 762
2 Popchu 647
3 trotters aotearoa 646
4 Bicycle_Boy 643
5 EvansIsTheBest 630

The high movers list has only one of the same names in the top 5; like I said, this was a week with a lot of movement. Weekly leader Karaev moves up 53 places to 34th overall, heading the week of change.

This week's high movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 karaev (+53)
2 Ceramiche_Cauz (+47)
3 cj2002 (+41)
4 Popchu (+38)
5 uspostal (+31)
5 the asian (+31)

The green jersey competition, as mentioned earlier, was dominated this week by teams who hadn't yet scored in 2015. As a result, the leaderboard did not change much, with only one team in the top 10 getting points.

Weekly points competition

Rank Team Points
1 The Hitch 72
2 afpm90 71
3 jeroenk 69
4 greenedge 65
4 asdfgh101 65
6 Geraint Too Fast 64
7 Ceramiche_Cauz 62
8 ingsve 61
9 search 61
10 will10 59

The top 10 overall is certainly not immune to change either. After wresting away top spot from longtime resident trackstand last week, jeroenk's team didn't manage to withstand the challenge of last week's second place (and perpetual high ranker) Geraint Too Fast. Although his namesake wasn't quite fast enough to hold on in the late break of San Remo, his CQ team was more than up to the task. trackstand's once glorious team falls to eighth, while two teams - asdgh101 and Blues in the bottle - leave the top 10. Taking their place are Kazistuta and (ahem) skidmark, jumping 6 and 7 places respectively.

Top 10 overall

Rank Up/down Team Points
1 (+1) Geraint Too Fast 3472
2 (-1) jeroenk 3403
3 (+1) Object 3395
4 (+7) skidmark 3372
5 (-) PeterB 3359
6 (-) will10 3323
7 (+2) greenedge 3318
8 (-5) trackstand 3298
9 (+6) Kazistuta 3292
10 (-3) theyoungest 3282

Note: the two teams we aggregated of the most popular riders would rank 34th and 55th overall at this point.

Note 2: I realized that even if I don't give a monthly update until the end of the month, the least I can do is arrange the leaderboard on that sheet on the spreadsheet. I'll be doing that from now on.

A bit disappointed that I'm not this week's top scorer, but hats off for Trudgin. Thank you Skidmark for the update.

This week won't be as good as last week - but the cobbled classics should give me a decent amount of points with Sagan and Stybar, and maybe EBH, Oss, Haussler.

Thanks for the update! So far the game is pretty close and exciting but that may change with the first GT.

9 spots up to 24th overall ...

I will take that since I know this is just temporary because every year I start slipping down once the big GC points are awarded since my team is usually very light on big GC contenders.
