I think Alaphillippe will have his "difficult second album"-season, although partly down to the mono. Hope Benoot is able to cope with the weight of growing expectations.

Is PhilGil's contract up this year? Depending on Rihs' benevolence I can see BMC trying to sign either of the two mentioned above as their new Ardennes leader for 2017 onwards if they're out of contract this year too.

Don't know if I made the right choice in the end..feel a bit stupid now.

I picked Alaphillipe for 826 points, from the 'obvious' picks I don't have Tony Martin (624) and Gerrans (244). Together they make 868. 868 - 826 = 42. So let's say for those points missing I need to remove Stetina (50) from my team.

We'll see at the end of the year what the best would have been.

Two more comment on some picks, I really like the Geraint Thomas pick. I didn't think about him (I choose Kwiat as 'high priced pick'), but I think he can be a kind of Porte this year. Doing well in one week races, maybe picking up some points in the classics, picking points in a GT. Can score 1500 for sure.

Dennis (had him last year) is also a very nice one! wants to focus more on one week races, which he can do really well in my opinion. Plus two mayor TT's this year. Good pick.

Curious about the Alaphilippe pick. Where do you think his extra points are going to come from. Had a good classics campaign last year, so I don't see him picking up more there or do you think he can?
Do you see him evolving into a top 10 in major stage races?

I didn't pick him because he had mono late last season. I wasn't sure how that would effect him this season. Pretending he didn't have that, he could have had a much better season last year. He didn't have a second wave of top form last year... If he's able to reach top form and peak twice then he should score pretty high....imo :)

I think he had a very good spring campaign last year (2nd LBL, 2nd Flèche, 7th Amstel), would be hard to do the same this year and even harder to improve. But I think he can score more points in the one-week races. He had a DNF in Catalunya, a DNS in Romandie, was 4th in Paris-Nice, a DNF in the Dauphine, but also a second place in California. So he has the capability to do well. Maybe not podium, but better than a DNS or DNS at least. Also his second part of the year was not that great. I think he can do also very well in the Canadian races. Don't know if he is doing well in a GT, don't think he's that type of rider. I didn't got the news that he has mono..I knew it from Kung, that's the reason I left him out.

So Ewan has won about four races so far this year and scored zero points. How irritating. Still, he's obviously on good form. Hope he can pick up a couple of stage wins this week.

Petit is the second rider that brings me some points after Gerro. Only 5 points for his third place in Amissa Bongo but this already makes him 10%.

An this are my rosters for the other 2 races that will start tonight:

San Luis:

CATTANEO Mattia
MARTINEZ Yannick
QUINtANA ROJAS Dayer Uberney
ACEVEDO CALLE Janier Alexis
GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando
LOPEZ MORENO Miguel Angel
VUILLERMOZ Alexis

7 guys for San Luis and at least 3 of them might get a top 10 in my opinion. I also have Gaviria and maybe Martinez for the sprints so I could get good points from here.

TDU:

GERRANS Simon
WIPPERT Wouter
VALGREN ANDERSEN Michael
VELITS Peter

Not the strongest roster but if Gerro can get a GC podium and Wippert some podiums in sprint stages I will be very happy. Anything extra from Valgren and Velits would be amazing.

Just a quick update - as you may have concluded from the fact that the Vuelta al Tachira was the only race going on this week, nobody on the 144 teams scored any points this week. Therefore, there will be no update. But holy cow, are things starting up this week! I'm always excited when multiple races start happening in the same week.

Well that has been fixed for you now. Could be great for some early points with no top level competition.

Correct, TDU is a gift that keeps of giving if you have a bunch of Aussies on your team :D

... few points from Wippert so no complaints here either ;)

Good lad.... I'm off the mark now with my insane clown posse. Another win later in the week and I'll be quite happy.

Ewan is actually quite an interesting pick. I think he could turn out very well.
Exactly what I was thinking. It's clear to me that he's got an uncommon burst and speed that could put him among the top tier of sprinters. Winning a GT stage over Deg and Sagan is a good sign and he rode a relatively light neo-pro type of schedule so I think he can make a big jump with more race days and participation in bigger races.

At a cost of 716, I'll be ok with anything over 1000 and 1200 would make him a really good pick imo.

Keep in mind that he won most of the same crit races last year (3/4 and overall at Mitchelton Bay, which is the same, and silver instead of gold at Nats), so if they did count for points, he would also have been more expensive for you to pick. It's almost a wash.

First points for Gaviria ... well, he is on 102 teams so not exactly a game changer

Still, that means there are over 40 teams he isn't on. Marginal gains :D

It's premature to get excited about the first result of the season, but - Grosu with 3 points and 4th place bodes well, especially given that I read on cyclingnews this week that he was in San Luis to support Bole (who appears to have finished 71st). No shame in being behind an apparently dominant Gaviria, Sagan and Viviani (and in front of Chicchi, Mareczko, Ferrari etc), and if he can consistently have a turn of speed like that, there are bound to be some wins against a lesser field/more points for a similar placing in a 1-day.

Add that to a win by the highly picked Gaviria, 5 points from Petit yesterday in Gabon (and maybe a shout at top 5 overall depending on how the week plays out), and it's an alright start for my team. I've got the Gerrans shield in Australia but not much else (Valgren is my only other rider), and I'm interested to see what Craddock and Talansky can do in the mountains of SL (as well as Lopez, of course). Lovely to have the season underway.

What's best about the Gabon race is that it will reward the same CQ points as the talent loaded San Luis

Petit already 50%(almost) and Gaviria killing everybody in San Luis. Also Wippert 3rd place in the first stage of TDU is encouraging.

He won two stages in San Luis last year. He still plans to ride the Olympics too? He may "only" end up around 400 which wouldn't ruin you.

Hmm I had a couple guys in San Luis and Down Under of whom I was hoping they could score some points in GC, none of them were big favorites but they could have scored a top 10/15. But it seems all of them already lost major time, so it's just Gerrans and Gaviria for me.

Petit wins another one. He might be the Kump of this year...

Or he will lead out Coquard the rest of this season. But still a nice point haul in Gabon

So far I have Gaviria with a stage and a 2nd place,Acevedo 2nd place yesterday and Gerrans in Down Under. Acevedo could still finish top 10 after all (although now that I wrote that he probably won't) very common picks so it won't be too good for me. However my most expensive picks haven't started their season yet (Contador, Tony, Tejay, Rosa, Dan Martin, Cancellara, Demare) and there are still many races to come.

I had Petit in my first draft but decided against him cause I don't think he'll get many opportunities. He's scoring well so far but it remains to be seen what he does in the rest of the season. Either way he should return a nice profit.
