Already regretting not picking Cancellara. Just totally missed him. Between him and Lopez it will be a lot of efficient points that need to be made up by other riders.

Likewise, Cancellara is the only one I regret not picking (so far).

I did not score good this week, as expected. Hopefully next week will be better.

Dubai Tour
KITTEL Marcel
MARTIN Tony

Kittel's points won't make a difference.

Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana
LUTSENKO Alexey
ROSON GARCIA Jaime
FORMOLO Davide
MARTIN Daniel
DEGAND Thomas
MARTIN Guillaume
QUINTANA Dayer

Interesting line-up that could surprise.

Etoile de Bessèges
DEMARE Arnaud
PERAUD Jean Christophe

Demare for the sprints and Peraud for the GC if he is in better shape than in San Luis.

Jayco Herald Sun Tour
HAIG Jack

Bonifazio is a rider that I couldn't fit in who I really wanted to pick. It remains to be seen how well he will perform in big races, but he's massively talented and off to a good start so far. Could be a very good pick.

Anyway, for next week

Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana
FORMOLO, Davide
RESTREPO, Jhonatan
MARTIN, Daniel

Dubai Tour
KITTEL, Marcel
MARTIN, Tony
CANCELLARA, Fabian

Etoile de Bessèges
DÉMARE, Arnaud
ENGER, Sondre Holst
JEANNESSON, Arnold

G.P. Costa degli Etruschi
POZZATO, Filippo

Fabian og Kwiatkowski doing well in Spain is nice, and Vervaeke showing signs of life is sweet as well!

For me this week:
Cancellara 108 points
Gerrans 54
Vichot 24
Not great and all quite popular riders. But I am glad Vichot already scored some points :)

Next week:

Dubai Tour 2.1
KITTEL Marcel
MARTIN Tony
CANCELLARA Fabian
(Almost) Everyone has Kittel and many have Cancellara too. Tony is a bit more rare ("only" 74 picks) but I'm guessing he'll be on leadout duties.

Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana 2.1
ROSA Diego
RUFFONI Nicola
MARTIN Daniel
MEERSMAN Gianni
VERMEULEN Alexey
Now, this could be more interesting. I'm especially hoping Rosa can get a good result despite having to work for Aru.

Etoile de Bessèges 2.1
DEMARE Arnaud
VICHOT Arthur
JEANNESSON Arnold
HARDY Romain
DASSONVILLE Flavien
This could be good, Demare could take some stages and maybe Vichot or Jeannesson could score an okay place in GC.

Jayco Herald Sun Tour 2.1
GERRANS Simon

GP Etruschi 1.1
As expected these hilly Italian one day races will be painful for me, I have basically no one for them.

Re: Re:

My again not successful week:

Trofeos (1.1)
KUDUS GHEBREMEDHIN Merhawi 28
STYBAR Zdenek 40

68

Cancellara is better than I expected, also Kwiatkowski. I wish them a good year even though they are not on my team.

Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (2.1)
DENIFL Stefan

Dubai Tour (2.HC)
KITTEL Marcel
MARTIN Tony
POLANC Jan

Herald Sun Tour (2.1)
HENAO GOMEZ Sebastian

Etoile de Bessèges (2.1)
DEMARE Arnaud
DRON Boris
LATOUR Pierre
PELUCCHI Matteo

Could get points in all those races although I fear Denifl is not in form yet.

Boring start to the year for my CQ team. Apart from a few five-pointers, all my points have been scored by rather popular riders. It's all well and good though, most of my team hasn't started their season yet, and I want all my popular riders to be successful too, to eliminate the hipster teams without them.
Two minor setbacks so far: Barguil's injury is bad news, and Sergent being far away from the points in the NZ nationals doesn't bode well.

Things are about to seriously kick off next week:

Dubai Tour: Kittel, T.Martin, Goss, Cancellera, Stuyven
I can see plenty of points coming here, potentially from all riders, depending on the Hatta stage. I want Goss to at least show some kind of promise.

Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana: Navarro, D.Martin, Jungels
All can place high in the overall.

Etoile de Bessèges: Vanendert, Demare, Peraud, Enger
Demare should have a field day, and hopefully Pelucchi continues his awful form so that Enger gets some chances. It's not April, so I expect nothing from Vanendert. Not sure about Peraud, but the GC deciding TT should suit him.

Jayco Herald Sun Tour: Haig
He's supposed to be OGE's leader, so hopefully Haig pays back my faith in him.

GP Etruschi: Pozzato
Come on, show me the track riding gains!

Being fourth from bottom, this week was pretty good with encouraging early points for Kudus and Van Baarle in Spain, plus Canc, and 30 for Battaglin this morning in Oz. Should mean moving out of the relegation zone of SansGerrans teams

Apart from the popular picks will be most interested in how Formolo goes in Valencia. Though he could just be donkeying for Rolland as I fear Reichenbach will for Pinot in Bresges

My relatively quiet week:

Cancellara 108
Kudus 28
Vervaeke 5

Vichot 24
Chavanel 7

Gerrans 54
-------------
Total 226

Well, it's January. Plenty starting up next week and month.

Dubai

Kittel
Tony Martin
Goss
Cancellara
Stuyven

Canc seems in good form, Kittel is Kittel (meaning I expect points) and Goss is Goss (meaning I don't).

Valenciana

Formolo
Dan Martin
Guillaume Martin

Well Formolo is pretty consistent and I'd like to see him get a good start. Dan Martin can always do things, and who knows about young Guillaume, I'm expecting more from him later in the season as he figures it out.

Jayco HST

NOBODY

Besseges

Demare
Vichot
Holst Enger
Chavanel
Petit

Petit has had his day in the sun and will work for Coquard, but Chav and Vichot are well suited to this race's GC, and Demare/Enger could get points in any sprint.

Etruschi

Grosu

We will see, Bole is in the lineup as well.

All in all, I expect another ho hum week, hoping to keep afloat and in good overall position before bigger targets of the season come up.

With Kennaugh, Cancellara, Van Genechten, Gerrans, and Vichot, this was a pretty good week for me. I should move up some from my poor start.

Never realised I had that many french guys in my team before looking at my startlist for Bessèges :
Démare
Latour
Péraud
Coquard
Jeannesson
Sénéchal
+ Barguil, Manzin, Sarreau and Di Grégorio that aren't racing

Quick note - I'm bogged down in a big project today, so I won't be able to get to the update until late tonight Canada time, which will probably be around 7am CET. So keep your anticipation up if you thought you had a good week!

edit: it'll have to be Tuesday (morning my time, late afternoon Europe time).

The season is well underway and Kwiat and Cance scored some important points. Next week should be fun as well.

Besseges
VANENDERT, Jelle
DÉMARE, Arnaud
JEANNESSON, Arnold
SENECHAL, Florian
VANBILSEN, Kenneth

Would be nice to see Jeannesson do something. Demare should score a bit. Senechal and Vanbilsen might try something? Jelle to roll along, I guess.

Valencia
DENIFL, Stefan
RESTREPO, Jhonatan
QUINTANA, Dayer
MARTIN, Daniel

Denifl and Martin for the harder stages/?GC?. Will be intresting to see how Restrepo fares here. Hopefully Dayer is allowed to grab some points somehow.

Dubai
BOHLI, Tom
KITTEL, Marcel
MARTIN, Tony
GOSS, Matthew
CANCELLARA, Fabian

Matthew Goss to wi.... yeah no... Kittel should score, Martin and Cancellara might if there's wind involved, but I'd like to see Bohli do well.

Oz
HAIG, Jack

Hope he gets some freedom and is can keep up with the top.

Update #3: togo party continues on top as standings shake up substantially

After last week's almost 1000 point haul, this week's slew of 1-day races made a more modest impression, with only one team scoring over 400 points. Still, in this early going, that was enough to shake up the overall table quite substantially. With popular riders such as Cancellara and Gerrans piling up a handy few points, and modestly popular expensive pick Kwiatkowski getting some solid placings, there were some different configurations of riders on offer. Some teams that had a few main riders start their season got a big boost, and leaps of over 30 places in the table were fairly common this week; while some of those who scored big in Australia had their in-form riders take a week off and fell to a similar degree. It's early going and teams are still flexing their muscles, but it's certainly enjoyable if you're having your moment in the sun.

This week's top scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 Carlo_Algatrensig 440
2 shalgo 382
3 Nicosix 358
4 laarsland 350
5 tom_jelte 346

Top team Carlo Algatrensig had Cancellara, sure, but it was the rarer picks that got them top spot - Cadel Race winner Peter Kennaugh (10 teams) picked up 140 points, Sam Bennett (15 teams) had a good start in Mallorca with 88 points, and contributions from van Baarle, Haas and Vichot pushed this team to the top. Second place shalgo had Canc and Kennaugh too, but got supplementary points from the more conventional Gerrans. Third place Nicosix went a different route, with Canc, Kwiatkowski, and rare pick Benoot (5 teams).

This week's high movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 Team_X (+44)
2 laarsland (+43)
3 shalgo (+42)
3 MADRAZO (+42)
5 axis (+39)

A different look than the previous table, the mysteriously named Team_X burns up the charts with the Canc/Kennaugh/Gerrans combo. laarsland, shalgo and MADRAZO are all close behind as things shake around in the early goings of the year.

Top 10 overall

Rank Up/down Team Points
1 (-) togo95 1227
2 (-) karaev 1155
3 (+1) will10 1143
4 (-1) LukasCPH 1062
5 (+10) trackstand 1036
6 (+5) StephenC2020 1031
7 (+2) Sasquatch 1024
8 (-1) the asian 1021
9 (-3) The_Instigator 1018
10 (+2) Eyeballs Out 1015

As so many points were earned last week, the top of the charts aren't taken over by this week's top scorers - the best top 10 team this week overall is Nicosix, jumping 30 spots to 13th overall. Team togo95 continues their stay at the top thanks to a decent week on top of a huge week last week. The top 10 doesn't see an outrageous shakeup, although trackstand (who was atop the leaderboard this time last year) rides Kwiatkowski to a ten-place jump, StephenC2020 and Eyeballs Out also jump into the top 10, while snccdcno, JosephD, and Roar Like A Mouse (who falls 25 spots!) drop out of the top 10.

*note: still having a couple of spreadsheet issues so I'll have the monthly totals, as well as the green/polka dot jersey standings out in a day or two*

Goss with a rousing 88th place today in the first sprint of the year. I feel like this is gonna be his year!

Seems like he pipped Mark Christian and Marc Soler at the line, but couldn't quite get the top end speed to keep up with the likes of Javier Megias and Branislau Samoilau. Next time!
