Fedi 4th in his first Etruschi! Great start for him and like I already said he will be Southeast main man in the majority of 1 day races in Italy. If continue with this top 5's he will be a great pick at the end of the season! And Ciconne is already in profit which is really nice!

Now I just want Vuillermoz to win La Méditerranéen!

This week in cycling...

Qatar
BOHLI, Tom
ZABEL, Rick
VAN ASBROECK, Tom
THURAU, Bjorn

Might Bohli and Zabel learning from Oss and GVA, Van Asbroeck playing leadout for Hofland and Thurau going for those KOM points... (longest jump over a speedbump?)

Méditerranéenne
DÉMARE, Arnaud
SENECHAL, Florian

Dear Arnaud, ....

Murcia
RESTREPO, Jhonatan
HERKLOTZ, Silvio
BAUHAUS, Phil

Restrepo to go full Ryo... whatever that means. Actually, kind of lucking forward to see how Herklotz does. The potential is there, but I have no idea where he stands in a pro peloton. No idea about his form either.

ZURLO Federico

Oh I thought I had no one here turns out I have young Federico... 4th sprinter in Lampre's Qatar team behind Modolo, Kump and Cimolai. I'd have rather seen him in GP Etruschi this week!
My young Italian friend finished 19 minutes down today! Hmm..

Update #4: Kittel and Kennaugh kill it; karaev is king

As February starts, the pre-season part of the season rolls around into full (or, at least, second) gear. The European stage race season kicked off in France and Spain, and the Middle East mini-season got underway while action Down Under wound up. The game's most popular pick was also its highest scorer this week; Marcel Kittel won the Dubai Tour as well as a couple of stages, going into profit already in his first race with his new team. Somewhat rarer pick (10 teams) Peter Kennaugh continued his fine time in Australia, nearly taking the Herald Sun Tour after taking the Cadel race last week. Both riders feature in this week's top teams. Elsewhere, Jerome Coppel (4 teams) took Besseges, and Wout Poels (not picked) took the revitalized Valenciana (pretty decent race!), and with so much racing on offer, various riders of rare-to-middling popularity took points for placings. The weekly table is somewhat spread out.

This week's top scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 Hugo87 566
2 Hakkie2 535
3 asdfgh101 533
4 magnolia 526
5 freshman 511

What a difference a winter makes! After only having 1 week in the top 15 (15th place in week 35) last year, Hugo87 gets off to a good start in 2016 with a resounding first place. Below the aforementioned Kittel and Kennaugh, their team boasted a good haul from Cancellara (67 points), Vichot (55), Haig (50), and Dan Martin (35), as well as a few more smaller scorers. 2nd place Hakkie2 has a similar combo, with Chavanel (88) in place of Vichot and Haig. Third place asdfgh101 had Coppel in place of Kennaugh and 5th place freshman was one of the 2 teams who decided to shell out for Froome, a move that is paying dividends so far.

This week's high movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 freshman (+41)
2 Geraint Too Fast (+37)
3 Schleckamagurky (+36)
4 Hakkie2 (+33)
5 squire (+25)

No surprises at the top of the high movers list, with the top 4 teams all in the top 10 point getters. However, team squire nabs 5th place on the high mover list despite being tied for 26th this week on points, a reminder that the high mover list is often a function of how tightly packed it is in your area of the table as well as how many points you score. Good movement by all teams here, of course - this is where you wanna be going!

Top 10 overall

Rank Up/down Team Points
1 (+1) karaev 1542
2 (+1) will10 1536
3 (-2) togo95 1534
4 (+9) Nicosix 1513
5 (+22) Hugo87 1487
6 (+12) Ferminal 1486
7 (+12) shalgo 1471
8 (+15) asdfgh101 1460
9 (+13) magnolia 1454
10 (-4) StephenC2020 1441

Hmm. To say there was a bit of change in the top 10 would be a vast understatement. The top 3 hold collectively, albeit in different order, but they are followed by a bloc of teams just rocketing to the top of the charts. Nicosix, Hugo87, Ferminal, shalgo, asdfgh101 and magnolia all jump into the top 10, while trackstand, the Instigator, the asian, Sasquatch and Eyeballs Out fall out, the last two dropping by more than 25 places! The overall table is very volatile in these weeks. And, after realizing I listed 6 teams going into the top 10 and only 5 falling out, I scrolled down and realized that LukasCPH fell what must be an unprecedented seventy four spots out of the top 10. Yikes! It really is a rollercoaster ride if you pick a team of rare riders. All of this is not to overshadow that we have a new leader in karaev! That team has all the popular picks that have scored so far, plus some of the relatively less picked guys (Petit, Dayer Quintana), and fairly rare pick Sam Bennett picking up points. Congrats to karaev!

In other news, I've worked out the bugs with the spreadsheet and will catch up on the supplementary rankings (green jersey, mountains jersey, monthly top teams) this week. Finally!

My week was pretty good, got in the top 15 for the week! Chavanel and Vichot held strong enough (although it's always a little deflating to see the leader's jersey slip away on the last stage), and Kittel ensured that someone on my CQ team has won Dubai every year since its inception (as Phinney and Cav did the last two years). Dan Martin and Davide Formolo picked up a handful of points in Valenciana, and the latter looked real good on the climbs but needs a race with no TT (or one where there's enough climbing that it won't matter - fingers crossed for a good Giro this year).

This week:

Qatar

Haha, I got Mohoric, who already broke his elbow, and no one else. That won't be a treasure trove of points. At least the guys who broke away today and will probably contest the GC are not too popular of picks.

Tour Med

Demare
Yannick Martinez

Well, that's a bit thin, although they both could contend for stages (I don't see anyone else notably fast on Delko so I'm assuming Martinez can go for some sprints).

Murcia

Tejay
Chavanel
Petit
Bahaus
Herklotz

This one depends on how it's raced - it's right on the borderline of a race that could be perfect for Chavanel and a race that could be too hard for him. The others I don't expect much from - Tejay's first race (plus has he ever done anything in a one day?), Petit and Bahaus are flatlanders, and Herklotz I'd expect to contend in a race like this in, say, September, once he has a pro season mostly under his belt.

Almeria and Laigueglia are incomplete at this time, but I kind of don't expect it to be a big week for me.

Thanks for the detailed update! Nice to get a mention. I had a solid but unspectacular week, and my team is just maintaining striking distance for the time being.

A tiny nitpick: I'd prefer my username in the spreadsheet to be written with a capital s. ;)

Not much happening next week for my team. Sergent and Farrar have already ridden themselves out of the points in Qatar. No big deal though, as there's really nothing going on CQ game wise in that race anyway, although I was sort of hoping Sergent would score well there with his early (but, as it turned out, weak) start to the season.

My main source of points could end up being Dani Navarro in Murcia. He's a former winner of that race. Elsewhere I have a faint hope of Pozzato showing up in Laigueglia.

My name is still linking to jeroenk's team :)

I forgot to use the altered file as my base! Oops. This time for sure. Not sure if the dropbox link automatically updates if I save over my old file, but I've already made the change.

Sidenote for anyone who may be curious - this year I thought it would be cool to tie the reverse links (out of a particular participant's page) to the specific cells of that team, so you could go back to their place on the rankings table instead of cell A1. Well it turns out that the link goes to the original cell programmed regardless of where the original data in that cell went. What this means is that once data is sorted (as it is every week), the links out of specific team pages will just go to random cells on the main table. Oh well.

edit: Okay, change seems to be showing up in dropbox, and change to Squire's name noted as well (sorry about that Squire - I usually am pretty precise when it comes to spelling, I was probably just careless processing a bunch of entries). Lemme know if anyone has any more, no problem to change it.

Dissapointing to drop out of the top 10, but at least i'm in 19th place, not a big fall.

Regreting not picking Vichot.

Barguil and Kung along with Nibs will be the key to where I finish.

Well, Demare just scored his first points...in a TTT

I read in the CN report that it's the first TTT FDJ has EVER won! That's nuts! They've been around for 19 years, and raced countless small French races. Either way, I'll take the 5 points that 3/4 of the field is also getting, yeahhhh

And another 26 for Demare today, stage + lead. I was hoping for some points for Ruffoni but he crashed :( I hope he is not hurt because he's scheduled to race Langkawi and he could score some podiums there :)

I fear that I will loose a lot of points in this and the next week. I have hardly any chance to make points in the small one day races this weekend and my line up for oman, andalusia and almeria also doesnt look very good. :(

wow, Laton into profit and Petit continues scoring in Almeria, that's a bit surprising. Good signs, even though only small number of points.
